ALL-SEEING EYE: A universal symbol representing spiritual sight, inner vision, higher knowledge, insight into occult mysteries. Look at your $1 bill.

EYE in top Triangle of the PYRAMID: Masonic symbol for the all-seeing eye of god – an mystical distortion of the omniscient (all-knowing) Biblical God. You can find it on the $1 bill. See triangle, Eye of Horus, the Franklin Institute website, and the symbol for the U.S. government’s new Total Information Awareness (TIA) System.  See also The Revolutionary Roots of the UN

ALCHEMY 1: This simple 17th century "sign" illustrates the blending of geometric shapes, elemental symbols and astrological signs. Each part representing the various "elements" and forces needed for magical work in the quest for physical transformation and spiritual illumination and immortality. Many medieval alchemists based their philosophies on mystical traditions rooted in the Kabbala (Jewish mysticism), Hermetic magic and the occult practices of ancient civilizations such as Egypt and China. See Philosopher’s stone and phoenix.  Compare it with the next symbol:

ALCHEMY 2: This compound "magical-alchemical symbol" replaces the above triangle with a hexagram and adds more shapes within the magical circle: a cross [in this context it become an occult counterfeit) and an additional circle with the Hindu"Bindu" (dot in the center) at the bottom of the hexagram.

AMULET: A magic charm (such as this little Navajo bear earring), worn to bring good luck and protection against illness, accidents and evil forces. Don’t believe it! [See Establishing a Global Spirituality]

ANARCHY: Popular among school aged children today, this symbol for anarchy fits the message that pervades the most popular video games, role-playing games, movies and television. The lines of the "A" often extend outside the circle. To many satanists and other fast-growing occult groups it represents their slogan, "do what thou wilt." A former occultist explained that it represents the ASMODEAS: a demonic force driving teenagers toward sexual perversion and suicide.

ANKH: An Egyptian cross symbolizing a mythical eternal life, rebirth, and the life-giving power of the sun.

ANGEL: Symbol of good and evil spirits in religions around the world. This picture shows a Tibetan guardian angel. For a comparison between Biblical angels and occult angels read Chapter 8 in A Twist of Faith. For a summary, see Touched by an Angel.

ARROW: These two pictures shows the astrological sign for the archer (Sagittarius) — part of the zodiac. But, through history, the arrow has also symbolized war, power, swiftness, the rays of the sun, knowledge… as well as deities such as the Greek god Apollo and goddess Artemis (both hunters), the Hindu weather god, Rudra; and various gods of sexual attraction: Eros (Greek), Cupid (Roman), Kama (Hindu)…. On ancient Roman coins, it represented the Zoroastrian god, Mithra. The native American Cheyenne warriors revered the "sacred medicine arrows" as symbols of male power. Arrows held by skeletons would point to disease or death. Today, they usually just point in the preferred direction.

Crystal (Gazing) BALL: Used for divination (fortunetelling, scrying, clairvoyance…). When the heavy crystal balls were too expensive, witches often used glass-ball fishing floats, colored glass balls, or magic mirrors. One website that markets these balls beckons: ‘Why not buy one and try your own free psychic reading."

BAT: A symbol of good fortune in the East, it represented demons and spirits in medieval Europe.

BLAIR WITCH: A five-pointed compound symbol with a center triangle pointing down. The five lines resemble the microcosmic man with arms and legs outstretched inside a circle (with a pentagram in the background)– a magic symbol or charm among medieval alchemists and wizards.

BUTTERFLY: Reminds Christians of the amazing transformation that takes place through Christ’s redemption and regeneration. When "born again," we become "a new creation." (2 Cor. 5:17)  To many pagans, its mythical meaning is linked to the soul (of the deceased) in search of reincarnation. See the new, politically correct meaning at Butterfly 208: "There’s a theory that says if a single butterfly flaps its wings in, say, China, the air disturbance may cause a storm in Nunavut, Canada a month later. If that’s the case, imagine the power of your own ideas and others to help improve the quality of life in the world’s 208 countries! The Butterfly 208 contest is a chance for you to create your own Butterfly effect! 208 = Number of Countries in the World Butterfly + 208 = A totally interconnected world! A world where even small actions can have a big effect."

"Sacred" BULL (Egyptian idol): These ancient Egyptian idols — once worshipped as manifestations of gods — are being revived. We have deleted a smaller (commercial) bull with horns resemble a crescent moon supporting the divine sun disc. Some suggest that this combination — like the Chinese yin yang — may symbolize a mythical duality: a union of opposites such as light/dark, sun/moon, life/death, and male/female.

God told His people long ago, "Do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt." But they ignored His warning and faced devastating consequences for refusing to "cast away the abominations which were before their eyes." (Ez. 20:7-8)

CHAOS: Apparently a self-made form of occultism taught through role-playing games such as Warhammer. According to one WH fan, "Chaos is the opposite of order. Since everything changes, there is no right or no wrong — only the quest for pleasure. The 8-pointed star represents the many different directions of chaos and the many ways you can follow it. We worship deamons and angels…" Another comment: "They got it from Elric of Melnibone. In it, the force of Chaos had as its symbol an eight-pointed double-cross (symbols within symbols) with points representing the noncommittal and omnidirectional behavior of Chaos." See Chaos Magic. However, other Warhammer fans disagree with the quote above. Read more here.

CIRCLE (sun disc, sacred hoop, ring): An ancient and universal symbol of unity, wholeness, infinity, the goddess, female power, and the sun. To earth-centered religions throughout history as well as to many contemporary pagans, it represents the feminine spirit or force, the cosmos or a spiritualized Mother Earth, and a sacred space. (See next item) Gnostic traditions linked the unbroken circle to the "world serpent" forming a circle as it eats its own tail. (See serpent)

CIRCUMPUNCT – CIRCLE with DOT (BINDU) in the centerIt represents the sun and a sun god (called Ra in Egypt), gold (as in alchemy), an (unbiblical) archangel (Kabbalah), emotional restraint (Freemasons), and the creative spark of divine consciousness within people linking everyone to the creative mind of a universal "god" thus making each persona "co-creator" (astrology). In the complex symbolic system of Hinduism and Buddhism, the  bindu (dot) represents the male force. Together, the circle and the bindu symbolize the spiritual merging of male and female forces. (See Sun Sign and the above explanation for CIRCLE)

CIRCLE (quartered): The sacred circle filled with a cross, four equal lines pointing from the center to the spirits of the north, east, south, and west — or to the basic element: earth, water, air (or wind), and fire. In Native American traditions, it forms the basic pattern of the MEDICINE WHEEL and plays a vital part in major spiritual rituals. Many contemporary pagans consider it their main symbol for transmitting the energy of the goddess.  (See sun wheel)  Churches have used variations of the same popular shape, usually calling it the Celtic Cross.

Masonic COMPASS: The Masonic symbol of the compass and the T-square represents movement toward perfection and a balance between the spiritual and physical which resembles Egyptian and oriental mysticism. The compass (used to form circles) represent spirit. The ruler (part of a square) represent the physical. Some public schools pass out pencil cases and other gifts decorated with this emblem.

COW: It symbolized the sky goddess Hathor to Egyptians, enlightenment to Buddhists, one of the highest and holiest stages of transmigration (reincarnation) to Hindus.

CRESCENT MOON: A symbol of the aging goddess (crone) to contemporary witches and victory over death to many Muslims. In Islamic lands, crescent can be seen enclosing a lone pentagram.

To grasp the significance of the Biblical cross and its cost to our crucified and resurrected

Savior, read The Cross.

CROSS of Christianity: While anyone–even pagans–now use the cross as decoration or as an occult symbol, Christians must continue to treasure the cross of Calvary. But be careful what kind of cross you wear – and what message you communicate to others. To understand the Christian significance of the cross and appreciate its excruciating cost to our crucified and resurrected Christ, read The Triumph of the Cross and "The Cross".

Inverted cross: Originally represented the apostle Peter’s humility in his martyrdom. He insisted that he be crucified upside-down, because he felt that he was unworthy to die in the same position as Christ. But today, especially in the rock music culture, it generally represents the opposite: satanism and its mockery of Christ. Lucifer continues to twist God’s wonderful truths and works into lies and deceptions.

CELTIC CROSS: The symbol for a cultural blend of medieval Catholicism and ancient Celtic traditions. Sometimes this cross is seen with four additional "arms" dividing the circle into eight instead of four sections.

Notice the similarity between the old Celtic cross and the cross designed by PBS (tax-funded Public Broadcasting in the U.S.) to represent Christianity (left side). Do you wonder why PBS would choose a similar cross (right side) to represent the Quartered Circle of the earth-centered religions of Aborigenes around the world?

The Celtic cross also represents the neo-pagan followers of the French anti-Christian philosopher Alain de Benoist.

JERUSALEM CROSS: In medieval heraldry, it symbolized the "Crusader’s Kingdom of Jerusalem" often displayed on shields and banners after the initial victory in the battle to recapture Jerusalem during the Crusades. (See the Maltese Cross). Some have linked the four corner crosses the "holy" wounds of Jesus or the four gospels. Similar shapes can be found on Hindu and Buddhist temples or coins — and in various earth-centered cultures — with entirely different sets of meanings. (Seecircle for relevant references to the four directions)

IRON CROSS (or Cross Pattée or EISERNAS KREUZ): Adopted as the Iron Cross in Prussia. During the First World War, it appeared on German fighter planes and tanks. Later, it became a fascist symbol in France, Portugal and other nations. Compare it with Swastika 3.

CROSS (MALTESE): CROSS (MALTESE): This eight-pointed cross (linking the points of four arrowheads at the center) dates back to the First Crusade in the 12th century. It was used by the Knights Templar, the Knights of Malta, and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem among others. In 1813, during the War of Liberation against Napoleon, it was revived by Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III and became an award for acts of heroism, bravery or leadership skills.

U.S. Missile Defense Agency logo: Does this military logo remind you of the Islamic crescent and star? Or President Obama’s campaign symbol, with it blue curve and three converging red lines? But the similarity may not be intentional: New government logo

Double-headed EAGLE: A Masonic seal and initiation symbol. The number inside the pyramid over the eagle’s head is 33. The eagle is a universal symbol representing the sun, power, authority, victory, the sky gods and the royal head of a nation.

DOVE: Peace. It sometimes accompanies other symbols occasionally representing the world’s vision of universal peace, such as the rainbow, olive branch, broken cross (see peace), globe, and Egyptian ankh. See Peace and Culture of Peace, which tells us that "’The CULTURE OF PEACE Initiative’ is a United Nations-designated ‘Peace Messenger Initiative’ – with Participants in all the world’s regions."
In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is, for a moment, made visible as a different kind of dove. It tells us that "Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, ‘You are My beloved Son; in You I am vwell pleased.’” Luke 3:21-22

DRAGON : A mythical monster made up of many animals: serpent, lizard, bird, lion… It may have many heads and breath fire. To mediaeval Europe, it was dangerous and evil, but people in Eastern Asia believe it has power to help them against more hostile spiritual forces. In the Bible it represents Satan, the devil.

DREAMCATCHER : An American Indian magic spider-web inside a sacred circle. After making dreamcatchers in crafts lessons in school, many children hang them on or near their beds. They have been told that these occult symbols will block bad dreams but allow good dreams to pass through the center. Don’t believe that myth! [See New Beliefs for a Global Village]

ELEMENTS: The four basic elements to many pagans are earth, water, air (wind or spirit) and fire. Many consider the first two passive and feminine – and the last two active and masculine. In Wiccan or Native American rituals, the "quartered circle" (also the Medicine Wheel) represents a "sacred space" or the sacred earth. The four lines may represent the spirits of the four primary directions or the spirits of the earth, water, wind and fire.

(This set of elements differs from those used in alchemy.)

ETERNITY: See Infinity and Uruborus

EVIL EYE: The symbol of a dreadful, fabled curse (believed to bring sickness, death, bad luck loss…). This "evil eye" has frightened people in many parts of the world through the centuries. Here it looks like a female eye on the "Hand of Fatima," but its shape varies with the culture.

EYE OF HORUS: A favorite crafts project in schools, it represents the eye of Egyptian sun-god Horus who lost an eye battling Set. Pagans use it as a charm to ward off evil. (See All-Seeing Eye)

Notice that the picture shows a compound symbol – several symbols joined together to give a more complex meaning. It includes an unbiblical cross and, at the bottom, part of a face inside the rays of the sun. (See Sun)

FLEUR-DE-LIS: Also called Lily of France, it was first an adaptation of the Gaulish lily representing the Virgin Juno. Among goddess worshippers, it apparently had several meanings, including the Triple Goddess. It appeared in Arthurian legends as well as on the French (and other national) "coat-of-arms" and royal or military emblems. It has also been an emblem for the Boy Scouts.

FROG: A symbol of fertility to many cultures. The Romans linked it to Aphrodite, the Egyptian to the shape-shifting goddess Heket who would take the form of a frog. To the Chinese, it symbolized the moon — "the lunar, yin principle" bringing healing and prosperity.[1] Since frogs need watery places, their image was often used in occult rain charms.

HAND OF FATIMA (daughter of Muhammad) or KHAMSA (five): Many Muslims believe that the image of the hand with an eye in the center will protect them from the "evil eye." While this symbol often appears on magical charms, amulets, and  jewelry, it is seen in many other places. See a similar image painted next to the main door to a home here. This Khamsa seems to be the same as the Jewish Hasma (below). Many serious Muslims view this as folklore or superstition. See comments, corrections and explanations HERE. Compare it with the next symbol:

HAND OF FATIMA or HAMSA (five): Jewish versions of the supposed "hand" of protection (above) from "evil eye" (Some expect protection from demons and sorcerers as well). During the Israelites’ exile in Babylonian, some began to blend Old Testament beliefs with Babylonian myths and mysticism. Such syncretism continued through the centuries. One of its manifestations was the mystical Kabbalah — the heart of many streams of modern occultism (including the Order of the Golden Dawn and other secret societies, Tarot cards and divination, etc.)

HAND OF… what? Native American version of two above symbols. Found on a flat, round sandstone disk during the excavation of an old Indian mound in Alabama, its original meaning is lost. Perhaps it was used in rituals preparing for tribal wars.

HEARTAGRAM: Originally a logo of "Love Metal" band, HIM, whose fans would wear the symbol –within a circle — as a tattoo. But it’s popularity has spread far beyond the band that designed it. To many, it represent the dialectic or blending of opposites such as love/hate and life/death. See Pentagram, Popular Occultism and Yin yang

HEXAGRAM (see triangles) or SIX-POINTED STAR: When surrounded by a circle, it represents the "divine mind" (a counterfeit of God’s wisdom) to numerous occult groups through the centuries. Many still use it in occult rituals. But to Jewish people, it is their Star of David.

HOOK ‘EM HORNS & HORNED HAND (Mano Cornuto): "President Bush’s ‘Hook ’em, horns’ salute got lost in translation in Norway, where shocked people interpreted his hand gesture during his inauguration as a salute to Satan. That’s what it means in the Nordics when you throw up the right hand with the index and pinky fingers raised, a gesture popular among heavy metal groups and their fans in the region….’Shock greeting from Bush daughter,’ a headline in the Norwegian Internet newspaper Nettavisen said." "Norwegians Confused by Bush Salute"

INFINITY (also eternity): In ancient India and Tibet, it represented perfection, dualism, and unity between male and female. In the occult tarot it’s linked to magic and represents equilibrium or the balance of various forces. The uroborus (a circular serpent biting its tail — a UN symbol for "Human Settlements") has been found in this shape. In modern times, it became a secular mathematical symbol for infinity in numbers, time or space.

ITALIAN HORN (Cornu, Cornicello, Wiggly Horn, Unicorn horn, Lucifier’s horn or Leprechaun staff). The ancient magical charm or amulet worn in Italy as protection against "evil eye" has also been linked to Celtic and Druid myths and beliefs. Other superstitions link it to sexual power and good luck. It is often worn with a cross (for double protection or luck?). In pre-Christian Europe, animal horns pointed to the moon goddess and were considered sacred.

LABYRINTH: “…predate Christianity by over a millennium. The most famous labyrinth from ancient times was in Crete… the supposed lair of the mythological Minotaur…. Turf labyrinths still exist in England, Germany and Scandinavia, and are thought to be linked with local feminine deities and fertility rituals…. The patterns of the labyrinth are similar in design and conception to the mandalas of South Asian Buddhism, which are physical representations of the spiritual realm designed to aid in meditation. Labyrinths blend their visual symbolism with the process of walking, which is similar to the Japanese Zen practice of kinhin, literally ‘walking meditation… In the early 90’s, when Jean Houston, one of the leading New Age teachers, introduced the Christian world again to the use of this practice for seeking spiritual enlightenment through walking the labyrinth." Steve Muse, Esoteric Christianity

LIGHTNING BOLT: In ancient mythologies from many cultures (Norse, Roman, Greek, Native American, etc.) the lighting bolt would be hurled by male sky gods to punish, water, or fertilize the earth or its creatures. Navajo myths linked it to the Thunderbird, the symbol of salvation and divine gifts. On children’s toys, it represents supernatural power. Double bolts, popular with contemporary skinheads, symbolize Nazi power.

LION: An ancient symbol of the sun, dominion, power, ferocity and bravery, the "king of the beasts" was often used on heraldic shields, flags or banners by medieval European rulers. In Tarot cards, an occult system of divination based on theKabala, it symbolized strength or power. In ancient mythology it was identified with sun worship and the imagined power of both gods and godesses. The lion head ringed by its golden mane would used in ancient mystery initiations and ritualistic sun worship.

While pagan nations used it to represent their mythical views of reality, the lion was created by God. In the Bible, we see how He used it for His purposes.

LIZARD: Its "sun-seeking habit symbolizes the soul’s search for awareness." To the Romans, who believed it hibernated, the lizard meant death and resurrection.[2]

Magic MIRROR: Used for "scrying" (foretelling the future, solve problems, answer questions….) The preferred spectrum might decorated with "magic signs" during full moon rituals. Rosemary Ellen Guiley explains: "The ancient art of clairvoyance achieved by concentrating upon an object– usually one with a shiny surface– until visions appear….The term scrying comes from the English words descry which means ‘to make out dimly’ or ‘to reveal." The Encyclopedia of Witches and Witchcraft, 307.

MANDALA: The Hindu term for circle. In Hindu and Buddhist meditations, it is used to raise consciousness. In meditation, the person fixes his or her mind on the center of the "sacred circle." Geometric designs are common. The center of some mandalas show a triangle with a bindu (dot) inside a circle. It represents the merging of male and female forces.

MASONS (Freemasons): The Masonic symbol of the compass and the T-square represents movement toward perfection and a balance between the spiritual and physical which resembles Egyptian and oriental mysticism. The compass (used to form circles) represent spirit. The ruler (part of a square) represent the physical. Some public schools pass out pencil cases and other gifts decorated with this emblem. See All-Seeing Eye, Eye of Horus, and Dreamcatcher. Read "Masonic Centers are dream catchers," then "Brotherhood of Darkness" by Dr. Stan Monteith.

MASK: Used by pagans around the world to represent animal powers, nature spirits, or ancestral spirits. In pagan rituals, the wearer may chant, dance and enter a trance in order to contact the spirit world and be possessed by the spirit represented by the mask. The mask pictured represents the mythical Hindu elephant god, Ganesha.

MEDICINE SHIELD: A round shield decorated with personal symbols or pictures of the animal spirit(s) contacted on a Spirit Quest or through a classroom visualization simulating an American Indian ceremony. Its basic image is often the form of the "medicine wheel" or quartered circle. [See The Earth Charter’s Unholy Ark]

MERMAID: Based on ancient myths in India, Greece, Syria, Africa and other parts of the world. Seen by some cultures as sea goddesses, these seductive beings guarded treasures, frightened travelers, and were eventually featured in alchemy and other occult practices as well as in fairy tales. By medieval times, the alluring Sirens of Homer’s days had apparently evolved into a promiscuous split-tailed versions that symbolized mystical sex to alchemists and secret societies. German legends describe a mystical Nixie — a fish-tailed female water spirits, daughter of "Mother Night." In our times, the more benign fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen and Disney Studios have generally erased any cultural memory of those occult roots.

OM: Sanskrit letters or symbol for the "sacred" Hindu sound om (ohm or aum) called "the mother of all mantras. Apparently, the four parts symbolize four stages of consciousness: Awake, sleeping, dreaming, and a trance or transcendental state. [See Heresy in high places]

OWL: Cherokee [Indian] shamans viewed Eastern Screech-Owls as consultants on punishment and sickness. The Cree believed that the whistle-sounds of the Boreal Owl was a summoning call to the spirit world. Other Native American traditions hold that the owl represents vision and insight. In Africa the owl is associated with witchcraft and sorcery. Australia, China, Greenland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Russia and Sweden all have cultures or mythical traditions that give spiritual significance to the owl. Probably one of the most bizarre occurrences of owl symbolism can be found at the "Bohemian Club." Find this and more information at Wise Old Owl

PEACE SYMBOL or a BROKEN UPSIDE-DOWN CROSS: Like many simple symbols, it meant different things at different times. Some call it Nero’s cross, linking it to the notorious Roman emperor who persecuted Christians. Centuries later, it was recognized as an old Norse Rune. [Notice its image in the lower left corner of this ancient rune stone. Its reverse image is under the nose of the serpent.][6]  Vikings called it "Toten Rune (Death Rune)," while some Germanic people labeled itTodesrune (Rune of Death).[7] After WW2 (1939-1945), it was found on the tombstones of certain Hitler’s SS troops and labeled ‘The Dead Man Rune.’ [Reference to bottom image of Scandinavian runes at [8]

Revived in the sixties by hippies and others who protested nuclear weapons, Western culture, and Christian values, it became a worldwide symbol of a new age of global peace and earth-centered unity. But many heavy metal rock fans would agree with Nero and have used it to mock Christ and His followers.

PENTACLE or PENTAGRAM (FIVE-POINTED STAR pointing up): A standard symbol for witches, freemasons, and many other pagan or occult groups. To witches, it represent the four basic elements (wind, water, earth and fire) plus a pantheistic spiritual being such as Gaia or Mother Earth. The pentagram is also "used for protection. to banish energy, or to bring it to you, depending on how it’s drawn," wrote a Wiccan visitor. Compare with the next link.

PENTAGRAM (FIVE-POINTED STAR pointing down): Used in occult rituals to direct forces or energies. Often represents satanism, the horned god or various expressions of contemporary occultism, especially when a goat-head is superimposed on the inverted pentagram within a "sacred" circle. See Heartagram, Baphomet and Pentagrams and Pentacles

PHILOSOPHERS STONE: The symbol for the Alchemist quest for transformation and spiritual illumination, it was also the British title of the first Harry Potter book (the U.S. publisher changed it to Sorcerer’s Stone). The double-headed eagle in the center is a Masonic seal. See also the Phoenix

PHOENIX: A universal symbol of the sun, mystical rebirth, resurrection and immortality, this legendary red "fire bird" was believed to die in its self-made flames periodically (each hundred years, according to some sources) then rise again out of its own ashes. Linked to the worship of the fiery sun and sun gods such as Mexico’s Quetzalcoatl, it was named "a god of Phoenecia" by the Phoenician. To alchemists, it symbolized the the destruction and creation of new forms of matter along the way to the ultimate transformation: physical (turn lead into gold) and spiritual (immortality – an occult alternative to the Christian salvation). The philosopher’s stone was considered the key to this transformation.

SCARAB: Symbol of the rising sun, the Egyptian sun god Chepri (or Khepera), and protection from evil.  To ancient Egyptians, the dung beetle rolled its dung balls like Chepri rolled the sun across the sky. The "sacred" symbol adorned popular seals, amulets and magic charms (worn as protection against evil spirits or to overcome barreness) first in Egypt, then in Phoenicia, Greece and other Mediterranean lands. Medieval alchemists used its pattern in their magical diagrams.

SERPENT OR SNAKE: Most earth-centered or pagan cultures worshipped the serpent. It represents rebirth (because of its molting), protection against evil, either male of female sexuality, rain and fertility, a mediator between the physical and spiritual world…. It also represents female energy or lifeforce in goddess worship, sometimes linked to the eastern Kundalini force or a supposed "goddess within." The list of meanings is endless, but in the Bible it usually represents sin, temptation, destruction, and Satan. (See dragon) The circular image of the serpent biting its tail links the mythical significance of the serpent to that of the sacred circle. See uroborus and spiral.

SPIDER: Linked to treachery and death in many cultures, it was seen as a "trickster" in ancient Africa, a "spinner of fate" in ancient goddess cultures and — in ancient Greek myths — the goddess Arachne turned into a spider by her jealous rival Athena. "Christian" cultures have linked it both to an evil force that sucked blood from its victims and to "good luck" because of the cross on the back of some species. The Chinese have welcomed the spider descending on its thread as a bringer of joys from heaven.

SPHINX: Ancient Egyptian and Babylonian guardian of sacred places –an idol with human head and a lion’s body. The Greek sphinx would devour travelers who failed to answer her riddle.  According to A New Encyclopedia of Freemasonry (by Arthur Waite, xii) the masonic sphinx "is the guardian of the Mysteries and is the Mysteries summarized in a symbol. Their secret is the answer to her question. The initiate must know it or lose the life of the Mysteries. If he can and does answer, the Sphinx dies for him, because in his respect the Mysteries have given up their meaning." (An occult, counterfeit view of redemption) See www.srmason-sj.org/web/temple.htm

SPIRAL: Linked to the circle. Ancient symbol of the goddess, the womb, fertility, feminine serpent force, continual change, and the evolution of the universe. (Illustrated at this website) A common shape in nature (snail, shells, fingerprint…)

Double SPIRAL: Linked to earth-centered or mystical faith in a blend of evolution and devolution — decay/renewal, life/death/rebirth, spiritual/physical — the back and forth flow of earthly and cosmic changes. With its focus on the unity of opposites, it resembles the Yin Yang.

SQUARE: In contrast to the circle which often symbolizes the sacred and spiritual (including the "sacred" earth), the square represents the physical world. Like the quartered circle, it points pagans to the four compass directions: north, east, south and west. While the circle and spiral symbolize female sexuality in many earth-centered cultures, the square represents male qualities.

SUN FACE: The pictured image is part of an 18th century Masonic ritual painting, but it illustrates a symbol that has been central to most major spiritual systems of history. Since the sun god usually reigned over a pantheon of lesser gods. his symbol played a vital part in pagan worship (and in the rituals of occult secret societies) around the world. In Inca myths, the sun was worshipped as the divine ancestor of the nation. For links to more information, see Sun face in our Q&A section.

SUN & MOON JOINED AS ONE: A universal pagan expression of the merging of opposites. Like the Yin Yang, the marriage of  the male sun and the female moon represents unity in diversity, compromise instead of conflict, and conformity to a new consciousness where all is one. (See The Marriage of the Sun and Moon)

SUN and SUN SIGN: The sun was worshipped as a personified, life-giving deity in Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and other major civilizations of history. Today’s more common symbol is the familiar face in the center of the sun’s rays. This is explained in Teletubbies. (See sun symbol below the picture of the Eye of Horus) A dot or point in the center of a circle symbolizes the blending of male and female forces. (See air, which also represents spirit, among the symbols for Elements) Hindus call the midpoint in a circle the bindu – the spark of (masculine) life within the cosmic womb.

SUN SIGN 2 : Found in Turkey and believed to represent the sun and the four directions.  (See Swastika 1 and 2).  Compare the curving lines with the primary lines of Swastika 3, the iron cross.  Notice also that without the horizontal line, the symbol resembles the outline of the Yin-Yang.

SUN WHEEL or RING CROSS : A universal symbol found on ancient slabs in Nordic countries, in pre-Columbian America and in Mediterranean countries.  "Today, it is used as a log by some new fascist organizations," according to theDictionary of Symbols. [3] Like the swastika and other sun symbols, it represents power and supremacy.   See also Circle (Quartered)  It serves as a logo for the Swedish national socialist party, Nordiska Rikspartiets (scroll to drawing of the sun wheel on a banner), and for the French Jeune Nation.

SWASTIKA 1 : Ancient occult symbol found in Egypt, China, India. (The lower picture shows part of a Hindu temple) Chinese versions include a right-handed (yang) and a left-handed (yin) version — opposites that "harmonize." It has represented the sun, the four directions, movement and change (the four appendages) and union of opposites (lines crossing). As a pre-Hitler elitist symbol, it was found in the Skull & Bones vault at Yale.

Revived by Hitler, it represents racism and the "white supremacy" of neo-nazis. It’s often placed within a circle. There is also a swastika on the gravestone of John Ruskin (mentor of Cecil Rhodes, who formed the secret Society of the Elect "to take the government of the whole world" – Ruskin’s words). In Time and Tide (1867), Ruskin wrote that "…the Government must have an authority over the people of which we now do not so much as dream." Ruskin has been reported to be involved in the Illuminati.

SWASTIKA 2 (Crux Dissimulata): An ancient swastika which symbolized the four winds or directions and their corresponding spirits. It was also a "fire and sun symbol occurring initially in Asia and later among the Germanic tribes," according toThe Herder Symbol Dictionary.[4]  "The cross inscribed in a circle mediates between the square and the circle," emphasizing the "joining of heaven and earth…. and "the perfected human being."

SWASTIKA 3: A contemporary variation of the many swastikas with labyrinth patterns. Like the two swastikas above, its arms point counterclockwise indicating a mystical, lunar and female orientation.  Compare its two intersecting lines with Sun Sign 2, its curved arms (following the shape of the circle) with Swastika 2, and its dark areas with the Iron Cross.

The TAO: An ancient Chinese symbol used originally to represent a widespread belief in unity, polarity, holism, and magic. See the Yin-Yang and read a longer definition in the Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis, who suggested the Tao as an ethical system for our times.

THEOSOPHY: A simplified version of the symbol behind the occult beliefs of UN leader Robert Muller (his World Core Curriculum became a worldwide pattern for global education) and education leader Shirley McCune [See Star Wars Joins United Religions at the Presidio and The International Agenda] Notice the ankh in the center. The more elaborate version inserts a variety of other symbols such as the OM, pentagram, cross, etc. (Because of its dark occult meaning and similarity to some of the complex magical signs used in alchemy and masonic rituals, we prefer not to post it.)

TOAD: Linked to witchcraft and other occult practices.

TONGUE (protruding): Linked to flame, fire, fertility, sexual power and spiritual power. In nations around the world, images of deities or masks with protruding tongues have indicated active and occupying spiritual forces — often a union of masculine and feminine spirits. Such images were vital to pagan rituals invoking [demonic] spirits. The sexual/spiritual forces represented by gargoyles with protruding tongues which adorned Gothic cathedrals were believed to protect the buildings from other spiritual powers.

TOTEM: Carved, painted representation of power animals or animal-human ancestors. To American Indians in the Northwest, who believe that all of nature has spiritual life, the animals in their totems poles represent the spiritual powers of animal protectors or ancestors.

TRIANGLE (earring pictured): Associated with the number three. Pointing upwards, it symbolizes fire, male power and counterfeit view of God. (See pyramid) To Christians, it often represents the Trinity. Pointing down, it symbolizes water, female sexuality, goddess religions and homosexuality. See chart of symbols in What Teletubbies Teach Toddlers.

See a large picture of Kabbalistic triangles and how they are used together in ritual magic.

TRIDENT: Called "the devil’s pitchfork," it has symbolized major gods in various pagan cultures. In India, it is linked to the Hindu "trident-bearer" Shiva, spouse of the skull-bearing goddess Kali.  More recently, this three-sponged spear has been used by Hindu militants in India to intimidate Christians. See article: "India Local Government OK’s ‘Anti-Christian’ Weapons Distribution"

UNICORN: To many New Agers, it means power, purification, healing, wisdom, self-knowledge, renewal and eternal life. Origin: In the 4th century BC, Greek historian Ctesias told about a wild animal with healing powers and a spiral horn on its forehead. Medieval myths suggested it could only be caught with help from a virgin who would befriend it.

UROBORUS: The circular serpent (yes, the circle represents a serpent with head in upper left corner) seen here) biting its own tail represents eternity and the cycles or "circle of life." Medieval alchemists linked it to the cyclical processes in nature. The uroborus pictured here (encircling the UN symbol for humanity seen inside a triangle) was the official symbol on for the 1996 United Nations Conference on Human Settlements pictured on all its literature. See (Habitat II). See other versions of the Uroborus at serpent.

WHEEL: A universal symbol of or cosmic unity, astrology, "the circle of life," evolution, etc. The pagan sacred circle plus any number of radiating spokes or petals form the wheel – a Wheel of Life to Buddhists, a Medicine Wheel to Native Americans, a Mandala to Hindus. It symbolizes unity, movement, the sun, the zodiac, reincarnation, and earth’s cycles of renewal. Pagans use it in astrology, magic and many kinds of rituals. (See Medicine Wheel and Quartered Circle)

This SUN WHEEL became a magical amulet to the Celtic Gauls or Gaels in Europe. Later, "Christians adopted the form, changing it slightly, so that it became a Christ monogram drawn within a circle." [celticrevival.com]

Tibetan Prayer WHEELS: "devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well being. Rolls of thin paper, imprinted with many, many copies of the mantra (prayer) Om Mani Padme Hum… are wound around an axle in a protective container, and spun around and around. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying this mantra, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion." (From The Prayer Wheel)

WHEEL OF DHARMA: Buddhist wheel of life and reincarnation.

WISHBONE: Civilizations dating back to the 4th Century (Etruscans, Romans… Britain, America) have held turkey or chicken wishbone contest. Pulling the dry turkey or chicken bone until it snapped ("lucky break"), they believing the winner’s wish or dream would come true. In today’s increasingly superstitious culture, many believe that this symbol will "catch" their dreams, bring good luck, and make their wishes come true. As in contemporary witchcraft or magic, the object becomes a channel of "good" energy. Astrology and horoscopes link it to Saggitarius. It might also be confused with the Lambda (looks like a lower case, upside-down "y"), the Greek letter adopted by the International Gay Rights Congress in 1974 as the global symbol of homosexual "pride".

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO, a UN agency): This symbol points back to the days of Moses, when a dead serpent was displayed on a stake during the Israelites 40-year journey through the wilderness. Instead of trusting God, the people complained, so "the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people…and many…died." When they confessed their sin, God told Moses to "make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole." Those who then looked at the bronze serpent on the stake with confidence in God’s promise, were healed (Numbers 21:4-9). This became an illustration of the crucifixion through which Jesus bore the judgment we deserve for our sins. (See John 3:14)  About 700 BC, faithful king Hezekiah ‘broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, since the people worshiped it as an idol and "burned incense to it." (2 King 18:1-5)
Brock Chisholm, the first head of WHO, showed his hatred for our God in a 1946 article in Psychiatry: "We have swallowed all manner of poisonous certainties fed us by our parents, our Sunday and day school teachers…" More here.

WORLD TRIAD: Originally an oriental symbol, it was "adopted by western Gnostics as an emblem of cosmic creativity, the threefold nature of reality or fate, and the eternally spiraling cycles of time… In Japan it was maga-tama or mitsu tomoe, the world soul…. In Bhutan and Tibet, it is still known as the Cosmic Mandala, a sign of the Trimurti."5 Like the yin yang (below), it also represents eternity. This is also the symbol for U.S. Department of Transportation. Another Gnostic symbol is the uroborus.

YIN YANG: A Chinese Tao picture of universal harmony and the unity between complimentary opposites: light/dark, male/female, etc. Yin is the dark, passive, negative female principle. Yang is the light, active, positive principle. Since the holistic balance between Yin and Yang is dynamic and constantly changing, it illustrates  the consensus process, the vision of global unity, and the blending of opposing energies at the heart of Holistic Health.
Since it represent monism (all is one) and pantheism (all is God), it opposes Christianity, which shows us that there is only one God (monotheism), and only in Christ can we be one. See The Tao

COMPOUND SYMBOLS

ASTROLOGICAL CHART: used by medieval alchemists in divination. Notice the symbol of the intellect and of the planet (and Roman god) Mercury inside the center triangle. This triangle is surrounded by a hexagram and two smaller triangles positioned as male and female energy – and seven more concentric circles. Compound symbols within magical codes and names inside multiple circles have been used by occultists and sorcerers in many parts of the world. It is still used in African witchcraft.

All-seeing EYE in the PYRAMID: The official symbol for DARPA Total Information Awareness, a surveillance and information system established by they U.S. government. [See programs] Notice how the masonic all-seeing eye of the new world order covers the planet with its enlightening rays. [Sometime in December 2002, this symbol was removed from the TIA website. Perhaps too many people complained. See Federal database spy site fading away]

The GREAT SEAL (back side) of the United States of America: "An unfinished pyramid appears on the reverse of the seal, inscribed on its base with the date 1776 in Roman numerals. Where the top of the pyramid should be, the so-calledeye of Providence watches over it. Two mottos appear: Annuit Cœptis signifies that somebody (presumably Providence) has "nodded at (our) beginnings". Novus Ordo Seclorum, a quotation from Virgil, refers to a "new order of the ages", i.e. aparadigm shift." See www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Great-Seal-of-the-United-States

The GREAT SEAL of the United States of America: The design for this national emblem was completed in 1782. Some consider its occult and masonic images an American mission statement. The inscribed motto, E Pluribus Unum means "Out of many, one." The words Novus Ordo Seclorum mean "a new order of the ages," according to this website: www.greatseal.com. The two sides show the symbol of the eagle (first a phoenix) and the eye in the pyramid. See All-Seeing Eye &Eye of Horus & Great Seal.  But the more correct meaning would be NEW WORLD ORDER [novous = new, ordo = order, seclorum = secular or world] See also www.greatseal.com & A More Perfect Union

The SEAL of the SENATE "…includes a scroll inscribed with E Pluribus Unum floating across a shield with thirteen stars on top and thirteen vertical stripes on the bottom. Olive and oak branches symbolizing peace and strength grace the sides of the shield, and a red liberty cap and crossed fasces represent freedom and authority. Blue beams of light emanate from the shield." www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Seal-of-the-United-States-Senate

Here’s the final section of a list of movies and TV shows that feature

Here’s the final section of a list of movies and TV shows that feature “fallen priests”; for this purpose defined as Christian religious figures who are ethically challenged in some way.

These here mainly concern the struggle with supernatural evil; the fallen priest’s true domain. Although in actuality, there are far more movies about possession that involve nuns than priests. This genre, called "nunsploitation" is included here, but the film that inspired them all, The Devils, is listed under "Historical" as it was based on true events.

Note that horror has not been separated out from supernatural. For priests, I guess if the experience is weird and bad, it’s all the same.

Warning: Spoilers abound!
Last update: 6/11/10 – NEARLY 300 SHOMS TOTAL NOW LISTED

Rating Guide

Note: this is not concerned with the overall quality of the film as much as the “fallen priest” aspect.

— Has one or two scenes involving a wicked priest and/or Catholic weirdness.

† † — More plot and exposition or weirdness.

† † † — Lots of religious stuff or just worth it for the fallen priest alone.

And no daggers at all simply means I’ve not seen it yet, or can’t recall it.

and means the entry has been added or amended fairly recently.

A handy guide to bad moviesNOTE: The movies in this section are all mature fare, to say the least, and some are utterly depraved. Many of the rest are not too extreme by modern standards; however, damned few of them would likely have been blessed by the Legion of Decency, the nuns who taught catechism, or your mom, and most of the better ones certainly constitutea "near occasion of sin".

View at your own spiritual peril. Enjoy! : )

Horror/Supernatural

Several genres are well represented here: nunsploitation, killer confessional, and of course, exorcism epics. These aren’t just about deviltry and spookiness, as I’ve included murder and other crime films of an exploitative or shocking nature here too.

There is also almost a sub-genre of "platonic priests" concerning good, young, thoughtful priests platonically involved with troubled young women versus elderly cardinals who serve their own hidden agendas. On the Protestant side is one that could be called the "faithless minister" which often hinge on his loss of faith, that generally involve preachers who suffer doubts usually after the wife is senselessly slain.

Where do those writers get these crazy ideas?

Abby (1974)

A marriage counselor who marries a preacher becomes possessed in this blaxploitation rip-off of The Exorcist.

Absolution (1978)

Richard Burton plays a priest at a British boys’ school who is driven mad by mind games involving murders and secrets of the confessional by sadistic students.

Alice, Sweet, Alice
(Communion) (1975) †

This could better be placed into either the “bad seed” or “mad housekeeper” categories, but there are several weirdly triggering scenes in an old Tridentine church. The movie is famous for briefly featuring Brooke Shields before Pretty Baby, as a soon-murdered First Communicant.

The Amityville Horror (1979, 2005) † †

Classic horror tale about a family, James Brolin and Margot Kidder and their kids in the original, who innocently move into a Long Island house where a murder has been committed. Devilish spookiness soon commences, terrified priest Rod Steiger is blinded during an exorcism and other priests get really scared too. Heck, who wouldn’t be, knowing there were at least 7 sequels, several serious documentaries, and even a remake on the way?

Fortunately for us, only several involve priests. In the prequel, Amityville II: The Possession (1985) a previous family’s son is possessed when he disturbs the spooks. A priest, feeling guilty over his inability to protect him, tries exorcism, at the cost of his own soul. Then, in Amityville: The Evil Escapes (1992), a TV movie, the demon goes west to start over in California, there to attempt possessing a young girl, if a priest can’t stop it first.

The situation is not helped by documentaries claiming it’s all based on real events, either.

The Antichrist
(L’Anticristo) (1974)

Arthur Kennedy is the impotent bishop in this Italian bit of Exorcist-style exploitation. Supposed to be one of the better ones, with full-out special effects and featuring such scenes as an orgy in Hell.

Behind Convent Walls
(Interno di un Convento) (1977)

A handsome confessor’s strictness leads to the discovery of naughtiness and murder in the cloister in this Italian nunsploitation flick.

Cartas de amor de una monja (1978)

Nunsploitation from Spain for a change, apparently about an affair between and nun and her confessor involved with the Spanish Inquisition.

Confession (2005)

When a grisly murder is committed in a Catholic boarding school, the killer confesses to a priest, who must keep his secret or violate his sacred vows.

The Confessional
(House of Mortal Sin) (1975)

An English priest tapes his parishioners’ confessions for sexual blackmail of a vulnerable young woman, ending in murder with poisoned communion wafers.

The Conqueror Worm
(Witchfinder General) (1968)

Vincent Price in top form as a Puritan happily hunting down witches during the English Civil War, until he accuses a priest with connections.

Constantine (2005) † † †

Keanu Reeves plays an exorcist bound for Hell, teaming up with skeptical detective Rachel Weisz to investigate the death of her twin sister in this special-effects-heavy version of the "Hellblazer" graphic novels. He’s helped by a psychic but alcoholic priest, and must ultimately confront Lucifer as well as the Archangel Gabriel, played by Tilda Swinton, who, just like Christopher Walken as the same character in The Prophecy, has gone off the reservation, too. A fun movie, with some cool anti-demonic weapons.

The Convent (2000)

A teen-slasher flick about a bunch of kids who break into a convent, long abandoned since a girl blew away most of the nuns with a shotgun. Demonic possession ensues.

Convent of Sinners
(La Monaca del Peccato) (1986)

Another entry for the Italian team in the nunsploitation category. A young woman, raped by her step-father, is sent to a convent where she falls in love with a priest — but is desired by all the nuns, too.

Dark Waters (1994)

A young woman tormented by horrible visions of her childhood, travels to an island where she encounters a sinister order of nuns with dark secrets.

The Demons
(Les Démons) (1977)

Exploitation master Jesus Franco‘s tale about two possessed lesbian nuns seeking revenge for their mother’s burning by seducing a convent.

Desecration (1999)

A teenaged boy who accidentally murders a nun, which triggers a violent chain of supernatural events that leads him to Hell, where he confronts his repressive mother. This might not be so much about clergy but it sounds as if its sufficiently full of surreal Catholic weirdness anyway to be on my "must-see" list.

End of Days (1999) † †

The governor of California playing an ex-cop dukes it out with Satan during Y2K in NYC when Arnold Schwarzenegger takes on Gabriel Byrne while Robin Tunney serves as snake-bait. There is one of those sinister cardinals lurking about as well as apocalyptic devilishness abounding. (Funny, I thought there would be a whole lot more Satanists partying because it was 1999.)

Exorcism and Black Masses
(L’Éventreur de Notre-Dame) (1979)

Apparently released under several names, Jesus Franco’s hardcore European exploitation is about a crazed ex-priest, who witnesses some staged Black Masses. Deciding the participants are possessed, he proceeds to exorcize them by murder. Well, I suppose that’s one way…

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

Tom Wilkinson plays a priest who goes fatally too far with an exorcism of a disturbed young woman. Part courtroom drama, part horror film, supposedly based on a true story.

The Exorcist (1973) † † †
Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) † † †
The Exorcist III: Legion (1990)
Exorcist IV: The Beginning (2004)
Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005)

William Peter Blatty‘s novel became an instant classic landmark of horror and spawned a whole series of movies, a host of imitators, and uncounted nightmares in small children with its big-screen adaptation. Linda Blair plays Regan, a young girl in Washington behaving ever more erratically until she’s clearly got a full-blown case of possession, including special effects, gruesome makeup, and projectile pea-soup vomiting. Ellen Burstyn plays her worried mother, Jason Miller as a young doubting priest, and Max von Sydow as Fr. Merrin, the elderly priest called in to go toe to hoof with the demon Pazuzu… again. Recommended.

(And if all that weren’t enough, more creepy special effects were added later for a re-release.)

In the second film, Linda’s back, doing fine until Richard Burton, as a priest frightened but fascinated by evil, is assigned to investigate the earlier events and brings the demon in her out. Von Sydow returns in flashbacks as Fr. Merrin. Louise Fletcher, Nurse Ratchet herself, is her shrink, and there are brief but effective scenes with Darth Vader, James Earl Jones, as a witch-doctor and Paul Henreid as a cardinal. Dialog and sci-fi mind-melding is pretty hokey, but very effective use of creepy Catholic, Aftrican, and bug horror. Recommended.

Ignoring these events, in the third film, the spirit takes over the surviving priest from the first movie, Jason Miller again, who becomes a serial killer, looking for revenge by offing priests.

The prequel has two different versions, by two different directors. Both cover the earlier career of Fr. Merrin in Africa which had been touched upon in the second film. Dominion, by director Paul Schrader, was rejected by the studio who hired Rennie Harlin to redo the same material but apparently actually did a bit worse.

Fellini’s Roma (1972) † † †

The great Italian director’s view of the Eternal City as only Frederico Fellini, with his eye for the grotesque, could visualise it. No plot, really. Part autobiography, part travelogue; it is included here because it ends with the creepiest ecclesiastical fashion show ever put on film. I kiddeth thee not.

Flavia: Heretic Priestess
(Flavia, la monaca musulmana) (1974)

Bloody Italian nunsploitation where a convent in 1600 is invaded by Muslim pirates, leading to defilement, orgies, rape, and revenge.

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) †

Robert Rodriguez directed this bloody crime spree/horror flick starring Harvey Keitel as one of those preachers whose faith died with his wife in a car accident. Along with his two kids (including Juliette Lewis), he is kidnapped by crazed outlaws George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino (who also scripted it) and taken to Mexico. There they stop at a strip club even rougher than it first appears, where the preacher must regain his faith as a "m*****-f****** righteous servant of God" to enable them to fight their way out. Salma Hayek has a small but memorable role as a hot vampire dancer. Recommended for the hell of it.

The Gathering (2002) † †

Christina Ricci as a hiker in England who gets involved with a family after an accident and starts having macabre visions. The husband just happens to be secretly restoring an ancient buried cursed church that a priest archaeologist who discovers the Horrible Truth investigates. It takes a unexpected turn halfway through when her visions are shown to have to do with a local man, the victim of a pedophile ring (including the local vicar) who flips out and starts blowing people away. A nice supernatural twist at the end with a literal Church cover up.

The Ghoul (1975)

Peter Cushing stars as a former Anglican priest who must keep his crazed, cannibal son locked in the attic so as not to snack on his guests during a race. It’s what any good host would do.

Good Against Evil (1977) †

TV movie-of-the-week pilot that ripped off The Exorcist for a series that fortunately never made it.

Guardian of Hell
(L’Altro inferno) (1980)

Nuns lust after abbots as a priest investigates weird happenings and dark secrets in a convent.

Guru, the Mad Monk (1970)

B-movie spectacular about a 15th century prison chaplain who murders to raise money for his church, with the help of his vampire lover and a hunchback.

The Halfway House (2004)

A young woman enters a home for troubled girls run by a sadistic priest and nun to learn the fate of her missing sister in this horror/exploitation film.

Happy Hell Night (1992)

A psychotic hunchbacked priest, held for a quarter of a century in an asylum for murdering 7 frat boys, is released through a prank and takes up his vocation once again on nekkid co-eds in this slasher flick.

Images of a Convent
(Immagini di un convento) (1979) † † †

A young noblewoman cloistered against her will brings out the devil in the convent in this choice bit of Italian nunsploitation. The penguins, driven mad with repressed lust, discover a wounded artist whom they nurse back to health. Depraved hijinks ensue, leading to an attempted exorcism. Said to be based on a French 18th century novel by Denis Diderot. Rather tasty in a naughty way. Highly recommended — but only for former parochial school boys.

Justine
(Marquis de Sade: Justine) (1975) † †

De Sade’s novel becomes a costume Eurosleaze spectacle starring a wooden Rimona Power (Tyrone Power‘s daughter) in the title role. She is put in a number of perverse perils, at one point ravished by a coven of depraved monks led by Jack Palance. Other big names such as Klaus Kinski also appear. Lots of nudity, not much sadism, supposedly.

The Killer Nun
(Suor Omicidi) (1978) † †

An aging Anita Eckberg plays an insane, morphine-addicted nun, seducing men and novices alike in this somewhat disappointing nunsploitation film, where the twist at the end fails to deliver. It’s interesting that the Church cover-up is accepted by all the characters involved without question, but the movie did get into trouble when a distributor claimed in ads: "From the secret files of the Vatican!". If only.

Ladyhawke (1985) † † †

A sweet medieval fantasy about two lovers, Michelle Pfieffer and Rutger Hauer, who are magically kept apart by a wicked bishop. (Yes! A black magician bishop!) Also has a young Matthew Broderick and the late, great Leo McKern as a Tuckish sort of hermit. Recommended.

Little Witches (1996)

When a group of 6 misfit girls at a Catholic boarding school discover a Satanic temple and spellbook beneath their church, they get involved with raising demons, and soon are sacrificing to the Devil and poisoning nuns. More of a "bad Catholic girl" movie than "fallen priest" flick, although you’ve got to wonder how that temple got there…

Lost Souls (2000) † † †

Strange but stylish Antichrist thriller, with a cult of priests eager for apocalyptic pranks, playing mind-games with psycho psychic Winona Ryder. Some scenes may be triggering and the ending is a real disappointment.

Love Letters from a Portuguese Nun
(Die Liebesbriefe einer portugiesischen Nonne) (1977)

A teenaged girl forced into a convent secretly run by satanists, is ritually abused, and told it was a dream. She finally escapes, but is caught, tortured by the Inquisition and burned for her trouble.(And that, kids, is why you don’t ever tell.) Said to be one of the more enjoyable nunsploitation films and it certainly carries a lesson.

Mark of the Devil
(Hexen bis aufs Blut gequält) (1975)

An eager apprentice witch-hunter in 17th century Austria, Udo Kier, loses his faith in his mentor, Herbert Lom, after witnessing his teacher murder for no reason. He sadly comes to realize witch-hunting’s just a scam for the church to steal property and gain power over people. More torture and a bloody revolt ensue.

Said to be so graphically violent with all the nun-raping and tongue-ripping out that barf bags were given out at theatres. And guess what? It was so successful it appears to have given its name to a whole series of at least 5 gory sequels and a "making of" documentary:

  1. Mark of the Devil II (Hexen geschändet und zu Tode gequält) (1972) Witches, nuns, priests and others are tortured by the Inquisition.
  2. Mark of the Devil 3 (Alucarda) (1978) is about a young girl who comes to a convent after the death of her parents. Demonic possession and satanic hijinks ensue.
  3. Mark of the Devil 4: Horror Rises from the Tomb (El Espanto surge de la tumba) (1973) A French warlock’s detached head comes back to life when discovered centuries later, enslaves the discoverers and demands sacrifices.
  4. Mark of the Devil 5: Return of the Blind Dead (El Ataque de los muertos sin ojos) (1975) features zombie Knights Templar (!).
  5. Mark of the Devil 666 (Mark of the Devil 6: The Moralist) (1995) is a slasher movie about a modern serial killer. Please Lord, could the madness be over at last?
The Milky Way
(La Voie Lactée) (1969)

Another strange film from surrealist director Luis Buñuel. In this one, tramps on pilgrimage in Spain encounter various heresies. There’s apparently a scene where the pope is executed by firing squad, and another with a dueling Jesuit.

Nightmares (1983)

In the third tale of four in this horror anthology, Lance Hendrickson, long before his role in the creepiest TV series ever, Millennium, is a priest in Mexico who loses his faith after witnessing the death of a child, and is pursued by the Devil’s own monster truck through the desert. Probably a lesson in this somewhere.

The Nun
(La Religieuse) (1961)

A young girl forced against her will to take vows as a nun is maltreated or lusted after by her superiors in 18th century France. Her steadfast virtue bring disaster on everyone in another adaptation of the famous novel by Denis Diderot against clerical abuses. Said to be the most "vehemently anti-Catholic film ever". I guess I’ll have to check it out then.

The Omega Code (1999) †
Megiddo: The Omega Code 2 (2001) †

Michael York has a wonderful time here as the Antichrist seeking the secret Bible Codes that foretell the End of the World and all the whacky fun he’ll have bringing it about in this modern fundamentalist Christian version of the Apocalypse. Other out of work B-movie stars join in, including an evil priest who mentors the young Beast in the ways of Satan. (Well, somebody‘s got to do it.) Cheesy special effects highlight Armageddon. Guess who wins?

The Omen (1976, 2006) † †
Omen II: Damien (1978)
Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981)

The Antichrist is one creepy little kid in this series. In the first film, baby Damien is substituted for the stillborn son of an American diplomat, Gregory Peck, and his wife, Lee Remick. Years go by, strange nannies and others come, and mysterious deaths start happening. Being warned by the second Doctor Who, Patrick Troughton, as a soon-impaled priest, doesn’t help.

In the second movie, little Damien reaches puberty and begins his serious training, but it’s not until the third film that clergy really get involved. Christ has been reborn also (!), and as the Antichrist hunts him down, seven monks hunt him.

Finally, there was a recent remake of the first movie, almost shot for shot, apparently just to use the release date of 6/6/6. No doubt the Devil made them do it.

The Order (2001) †

Claude Van Damme kicks ass in Jerusalem looking for his archeologist father who has been abducted by the remnants of a Templar-like order of monks which has been taken over by a corrupt leader who wants to start a war by blowing up the Dome of the Rock. Swordplay beneath the Temple Mount ensues. Not much true horrorific or supernatural elements, but hey, weird enough anyway.

The Order
(The Sin Eater) (2003) † † †

Good secret orders and bad struggling in Rome. Weird flick features Robocop Peter Weller as one of those cardinals and a satanic “Black Pope” (who is presumably not the same as the Jesuit Superior General), as well as an strange sort of anti-sacramental alternative to the confessional which may actually exist. Recommended, but pretty strange.

The Other Hell
(L’Altro inferno) (1983)

When murders plague a convent, the investigating priest must decide if it’s a case of a psychopath or possession in this Italian nunsploitation flick.

Pact of Silence
(Le Pacte du silence) (2003)

Gérard Depardieu as a priest-doctor in Brazil, who treats a Carmelite nun for pain that is apparently being psychically transferred to her by her twin sister, just released from prison for murder. Romance, more death, and a muddled ending apparently ensue.

Prime Evil (1988)

A nun who’s a childhood victim of satanic abuse infiltrates a sect of devil-worshipping monks in New York City.

Prince of Darkness (1987)

When a priest belonging to a strange sect dies, another priest discovers a mysterious container in an abandoned church he had been guarding that contains pure evil goop. And it’s waking up. Starring Donald Pleasance, written and directed by John Carpenter.

The Prophecy (1995) † †
The Prophecy II (1998)
The Prophecy 3: The Ascent (2000)

The first film in this odd eschatological trilogy is about an ex-deacon turned cop, a schoolteacher, and a little girl who get involved in another civil war in Heaven which comes to the American Southwest. The always spookily entertaining Christopher Walken as the now rebellious Archangel Gabriel leads a largely unknown cast, and Viggo Mortensen does a nice turn as the King of Hell. Some scenes may be triggering.

The other two films, also starring Walken, add to the apocalyptic arc. On the to be viewed list.

Saint Sinner (2002)

Frightmeister Clive Barker wrote the story for this TV-movie about a 19th century monk who is fated to travel through time to the 21st century to stop two succubi he released. Whoopsie!

Sacred Flesh (2000) † † † †

Superior but talky nunsploitation where a medieval mother superior confronts visions of Mary Magdalene and a dead nun who torment her about her own sexual repression. Artsy and surprisingly philosophical, with brief soft-porn flashbacks to sexual situations confessed by her underlings involving autoeroticism, lesbianism, flagellation and blasphemy. The abuse of a novice by two priests in full vestments might be disturbing.

Salem’s Lot (1979, 2004)

Television miniserial versions of Stephen King’s thriller about vampires in a small town in Maine. The remake features James Cromwell as the priest made unclean thereby.

Salo, or The 120 Days of Sodom
(Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma) (1975) † †

Director Pier Paolo Pasolini‘s all-too-faithful, gross, and extremely disturbing and explicit version of the Marquis de Sade‘s most notorious work is set in Northern Italy at the end of World War II supposedly as a parable against fascism. Four perverts, including a bishop, round up sixteen teenaged boys and girls, for degradation, torture, rape, and execution. Not recommended due to extreme content.

Satánico Pandemonium
(La Sexorcista) (1975) † † †

Blood-drenched Mexican nunsploitation about a novice tormented by the Devil. Unevenly paced with zero special effects, but once she succumbs there’s flagellation, lesbianism, and a lot of gore. Or is it all a fever dream? The scene where she attempts to seduce and then murder a young shepherd boy may be quite disturbing. (Trivia note: the movie title provided the name for the Salma Hayek character in From Dusk Til Dawn.)

Satan’s Schoolgirls (2004)

A priest comes to a rustic school to teach summer school and must deal with four seriously sexually disturbed girls and a sadistic nun.

Satan’s Skin (1971)

Old Nick slowly takes over the children of a 17th century English village, causing them to do things like seduce the local parson in this said to be effective horror film. Yeah, it’s always those darned kids’ fault, the little devils…

School of the Holy Beast
(Seijû gakuen) (1974) † † †

Strange anti-Catholic Japanese hardcore nunsploitation about a young woman who enters a Catholic convent to investigate her mother’s death and is subjected to the entire gamut of abuse including lesbian sex, several kinds of flagellation, and of course, rape by clergy and others. Oh yes, plus incest for revenge too. What makes it even weirder is that the evil priest running the joint is a dead ringer for Shoko Ashihara, the Antichrist head of the Aum Shinrikyo doomsday cult, too. As one might suspect, it’s based on a Japanese comic book.

The Sentinel (1977)

A suicidal model moves into a creepy apartment building in New York City which is actually the gateway to Hell she has been chosen to guard by a sinister priestly brotherhood – once blind priest John Carradine, the current sentinel, kicks it. Lots of recognizable names including José Ferrer and Arthur Kennedy as priests, plus Burgess Meredith, Christopher Walken, andJerry Orbach, among others.

Signs (2002) †

This low-key, kinda slow, spooky sci-fi thriller is about a formerly married priest (Episcopalian, one assumes) who lost his faith but must face the prospect of an alien invasion on his farm. Stars noted crazy Mel Gibson as the priest, who for once, is only tortured psychologically, and Joaquin Phoenix as his brother. Heir to Alfred Hitchcock, director M. Night Shyamalan has a small but not unimportant role. Suspenseful though ultimately disappointing, it’s at least more thoughtful though with fewer special effects than most alien invasion movies.

The Sinful Nuns of Saint Valentine
( Le Scomunicate di San Valentino) (1974)

The lover of a young woman locked away in a convent run by a depraved abbess and accused of heresy in this Italian exploitation flick must rescue her before the Inquisition discovers what’s going on. With a title like this, there should be a lot going on, but it is said to be too serious to tittilate, and too exploitative to be serious.

Sinners and Saints (2004)

TV-movie about a superhero priest tormented by clairvoyant dreams who must combat crime and Hell itself, aided by leather-clad kung-fu nuns. This one I gotta see.

Sister Emanuelle
(Suor Emanuelle) (1977)

The European soft porn franchise ventures into nunsploitation, when our heroine repents of her libidinous ways and joins a convent. She’s put in charge of a liberated young girl, and begins to question her repentance. I wonder what happens then?

Sleepy Hollow (1997) †

Director Tim Burton‘s supernatural take on the classic Halloween horror story of the Headless Horseman has a great cast, including Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, now a constable rather than a schoolteacher, Christina Ricci as his witchy love interest, and creep-master Christopher Walken as the scary decapitating equestrian. Not much scope for clergy in the original story by Washington Irving but Jeffrey Jones has a small role here as a hypocrital, corrupted minister, plus there’s another minister seen torturing a suspect witch in flashback.

Splatter University (1984)

An alleged stinker even for teen slasher movies, this film is set at a Catholic college. Could the wheelchair-bound priest possibly be the killer?

Stigmata (1999) † † †

Gabriel Byrne is a good albeit doubting priest here, helping an unwillingly stigmatized Patricia Arquette, getting all mediumistic, uncover the secrets of a Gospel long suppressed by Rome.Jonathan Pryce is the sneaky cardinal and there’s a lovely uncredited cameo appearance by the Holy Spirit, too. Recommended.

To the Devil a Daughter (1976)

The great Christopher Lee is a maniacal, excommunicated priest out to serve yummy Nastassja Kinski up to Satan in this cheesy version of a Dennis Wheatley occult thriller. Very much on the list to be seen.

The Unholy (1988)

In New Orleans, a priest looks into the murder of his predecessor, and is tested by a beautiful demon that kills sinners in the very act of sinning. Hal Holbrook and Trevor Howard play supportive clergy.

Vampires (1998) † † †

John Carpenter’s gory fantasy is my favorite fallen priest movie, not least because it’s set in New Mexico and my two youngest brothers worked on it. But the Vatican-based vampire hunters and their replacement priest, Tim Guinee, actually do it right (I especially liked the boar spears with lights mounted on them). Plus there’s a malevolent cross, a droll performance by James Woods as the leader of the hunters, and Maximilian Schell has a wonderful time hamming it up as the wicked cardinal. Recommended.

Van Helsing (2004)

The Vatican’s secret anti-monster campaign is reassuringly active here, too. In this messy special-effects-laden horror/adventure flick, Count Dracula’s nemesis, played by X-Man Hugo Jackman, fights Old Fangface, Frankenstein’s Monster, and the Wolfman with occult weapons from a secret laboratory beneath St. Peter’s. Where’s Abbott and Costello?

O Viasmos mias monahis (1983)

Nunsploitation from Greece, where the traditionally unwilling young novice is forced into prostitution.

Village of the Damned (1995)

John Carpenter‘s remake of the 1960 British classic science fiction/horror story about a group of a dozen creepy identical blonde children from outer space born on one day is set in a town in California and features Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, as the village priest. Christopher Reeve and Kirstie Alley also star.

Wet and Rope
(Shudojo: nure nawa zange) (1979) † †

Violent Japanese anti-Catholic nunsploitation so bizarrely uninformed it’s unintentionally hilarious. A rape victim, saved from suicide by a seemingly-friendly priest, becomes a Catholic nun, only to be abused again and again. The "Saint/Animal party" is a fund-raising tool that is not to be believed. Beats the heck out of a bake sale.

White Zombie (1932)

The first zombie movie ever! Stars the original Dracula, Bela Lugosi, as the voodoo master who enslaves the visiting fiance of a planter who is assisted by the local missionary in efforts to rescue her.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008) †

Mulder and Scully are put on the case again when a convicted pedophile priest claims visions of abductees – not by aliens, but Russian organ-runners, in this second cinematic sequel to the popular 90s series. Not a bad episode, but the priest is barely creepier than Scully’s clerical boss at the hospital, who in a subplot objects to her using stem cells mainly due to expense, with no mention of the theological issues involved.

top

for this purpose defined as Christian religious figures who are ethically challenged in some way.

PSYCHIATRIC MEDS 101: A SUPPRISING DISCOVERY

By Shane Ellison M. Sc.
The People’s Chemist
July 30, 2010
NewsWithViews.com

I ask questions with period marks to shorten conversations. I avoid eye contact with strangers in fear (maybe it’s anxiety) that I might learn too much about them. I secretly think that Metallica would be making better music if they went back to bludgeoning themselves with party drugs and alcohol, instead of “therapy.” I’m trying to master the Law of Un-attraction to shield myself from a “real job,” small homes and junky cars. And, I’m constantly giving my children advice, only to give it to myself.

Psychiatry, can your drugs help me?

Perhaps these questions are what motivated me to pursue a career as a drug design chemist, winning multiple awards for my work. Nothing gets me more excited than drugs and how they affect the body (except my wife’s abs). I’ve studied their molecular anatomy, risked life and limb to mix and match explosive chemicals in a round bottom flask, and even sold my soul to Big Pharma in exchange for a lab bench and chemical hood.

During this time, I’ve made some surprising discoveries about psychiatric meds, which include antidepressants, antipsychotics, stimulants, and anti-anxiety drugs. Understanding what I’ve learned will protect you from the flood of side effects that are now being discovered at breakneck speeds, courtesy of the myriad of patients taking them in the name of mental health.

Your Own Personal Hell

Antidepressants strive to increase the levels of a “coping” molecule known as serotonin in the brain. It supposedly helps us find happiness when it’s covered in an avalanche of nastiness. But, it’s never been proven. Still, the drugs attempt to boost serotonin by “selectively” stopping the “reuptake” among brain cells. This is where the whole SSRI acronym came from – “selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.” It’s a slick name, but a stupid idea. Nothing is selective in the body.

While trying to block the reuptake of serotonin, antidepressants can also prevent its release and that of another brain compound known as dopamine. The areas of the brain responsible for release and reuptake of these neurotransmitters are so damn similar (after all, they work on the same molecule) that an antidepressant drug isn’t smart enough to understand which one it is supposed to work on. So it does what any dumb drug would do, it blocks both. That’s why users usually carry a glassy stare in their eye. Fully under the psychiatric spell, they’ve tuned out.

Deep sadness, fear, anger and aggression can set in over time. By removing serotonin and dopamine from the brain, long-term antidepressant users can’t find or feel happiness. Instead, they may become buried in the avalanche of nastiness. And if you can’t find or feel happiness in life, what’s the point? What’s going to stop you from snapping your own neck or spraying bullets on your classmates? Not much when you live in your own personal antidepressant hell.

Think this is all opinion?

According to the FDA, antidepressants can cause suicidal thoughts and behavior, worsening depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostility, impulsivity, aggression, psychotic episodes and violence. Some even cause homicidal ideation according to the manufacturers. Many long-term antidepressant users will tell you they no longer feel normal emotions—they’re numb, like zombies.

But the side effects of these drugs aren’t limited to hijacking your feelings and emotional state, causing violent and psychotic states. Physical side effects occur too and include abnormal bleeding, birth defects, heart attack, seizures and sudden death. Over one hundred and seventy drug regulatory warnings and studies have been issued on antidepressants, to sound the alarm on these side effects.

For Elephant Use Only

Psychiatrists prescribe antipsychotic meds such as Zyprexa and Seroquel, for anything from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, delusional disorder, psychotic depression, autism or anything else they can think of, even “pervasive developmental disorder,” which is perfect for boosting sales because it targets children who suffer from irritability, aggression, and agitation. It’s a shame ‘cause these drugs are good for nothing but sedating irate elephants, not curing psychiatric disease.

According to a study published in Psychological Medicine, antipsychotic drugs cause brains to shrink – they lessen brain matter and volume. Originally designed for those deemed “schizophrenic,” the drug companies came up with a brilliant marketing campaign to sell these drugs to a much wider market—unsatisfied antidepressant users. You’ve probably seen the ads—if your “depression medication” isn’t working, then don’t blame the drug; you may just have bipolar disorder!”

Once swallowed, antipsychotics sail through the blood stream where they’re carried to the brain. Like a giant oil spill, antipsychotics cover the brain in a medicinal slick, where brain wave transmission is blocked. Users become devoid of normal brain activity. Motivation, drive and feelings of reward are shunted. If psychiatry considers this a “treatment,” they’re the crazy ones.

If you’ve ever seen someone who has suffered from the “spill” courtesy of following doctor’s orders, you can’t mistake one of the most common side effects, it’s called Akathisia. Involuntary movements, tics, jerks in the face and the entire body can become permanent side effects for antipsychotic users.

Antipsychotics also cause obesity, diabetes, stroke, cardiac events, respiratory problems, delusional thinking and psychosis. Drug regulators from the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa warn that they can also lead to death. I wouldn’t be surprised if psychiatrists considered this a cure…

Use This to Jump The Grand Canyon

If you’re going to attempt to jump your scooter over the Grand Canyon, or ride your snowboard off Kilimanjaro, stimulants are great. They flood the brain with dopamine and trigger an inhuman surge of adrenaline, responsible for making you believe life is grand, despite eminent death. Outside of that, you’re either a speed freak, a college student trying to learn an entire semester of Biology 101 in 4 hours, or a fifth grader “following doctor’s orders.”

Top stimulants being prescribed today are nothing more than a mix of amphetamines packaged into trade names like Adderall, Dexedrine and Ritalin. Street thugs sell it as meth, poor man’s cocaine, crystal, ice, glass and speed. It’s no wonder kids are now abusing Ritalin, Adderall and these drugs more than street drugs, they’re cheaper to get and they’re “legal,” hence the term kiddie cocaine.

Even the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) categorizes Ritalin in the Schedule ll category, meaning a high potential for abuse—just like cocaine and morphine. All of them have the same effects regardless of how they’re named: Central nervous system overload leading to heart attack and/or heart failure. And kids are dropping faster than Meth Heads at Raves…

I’m not exaggerating.

Eleven international drug regulatory agencies and our own FDA has issued warnings that stimulants like Ritalin cause addiction, depression, insomnia, drug dependence, mania, psychosis, heart problems, stroke and sudden death.

Bash Your Head in with Anti-Anxiety Drugs

If you’re not man enough for a drug that could sedate an elephant like antipsychotics, then psychiatrists will prescribe anti-anxiety meds, particularly benzodiazepines. Choosing between the two is akin to deciding whether or not you should be hit in the head with an aluminum bat or a wooden one; anti-anxiety meds being the latter.

Discovered in the stinky chemistry labs of Hoffman La Roche in 1955, anti-anxiety meds aim to trigger sleep receptors in the brain, just slightly. So, rather than being riddled with anxiety, you are put to sleep, halfway. It’s “treatment,” and psychiatrists have been “practicing it for decades.” But, it has yet to work, because drugging your problems away is more dangerous than anxiety. The use of anti-anxiety meds is coupled with a host of nasty side effects such as seizures, aggression and violence once the drug wears off. Hallucinations, delusional thinking, confusion, abnormal behavior, hostility, agitation, irritability, depression and suicidal thinking are all possible outcomes according to Big Pharma’s heavily guarded research papers.

Getting off the drugs could be harder than abandoning a heroin addiction. Some have described withdrawal from “benzos” being akin to pulling hundreds of fish hooks out of their skin, without anesthesia. If you doubt their addictive nature, go to Google search and type in a few of the leading anti-anxiety drugs like Klonopin or Xanax and here is what you’ll find:

“Klonopin withdrawal” 1,860,000 results
“Xanax withdrawal” 1,980,000 results
Exposing Psychiatry: How to Get The Truth

In total, the side effects of psychiatric meds spread far and wide. And most are hidden from patients and doctors alike. Fortunately, Citizens Commission on Human Rights has solved this problem with a state-of-the-art database that allows people to search through the adverse reaction reports sent to the FDA on psychiatric drugs. It also provides international drug regulatory agency warnings and studies published on the side effects of the drugs.

So, can psychiatry help me? No. And that’s surprising because psychiatric meds are some of the biggest selling drugs, poised to seal the hopes and dreams of millions. Regardless of what mental state I might be in (or anyone else for that matter), there is not a single drug that cures, treats or solves the perceived problems of mental health.

While people can suffer miserably from emotional or mental duress that can hinder their lifestyle, the pseudo-science of psychiatry has yet to solve any of these problems, and in fact only contributes to poor health as seen by the wide array of side effects. Marketing campaigns and ghostwritten medical journals are designed to obscure these facts. But the psychiatric drug side effect database courtesy of CCHR ensures that all patients have access to the truth, to the documented facts, which could save their life or that of a loved one.

Schwarzenegger, Murdoch Give Keynote Speeches At The Bohemian Grove 300710grove

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is to make a keynote address this evening before the Annual Bohemian Club secret gathering – a lifetime achievement for a man who has long been groomed for power by the globalist elite.

Schwarzenegger will speak in front of hundreds of movers and shakers at the 2,700-acre wooded encampment along the Russian River in Monte Rio.

The plutocrats will no doubt be eager to hear from the man that they hand picked to become California Governor in 2003, a fact that was reported in the San Francisco Chronicle at the time.

Schwarzenegger has since been a regular attendee at the Grove, but this will be the first time he has delivered a main event address at the elite hideout.

shw_campaign

The news was reported as part of a puff piece on the grove in the Santa Rosa based Newspaper,The Press Democrat.

The article paints the Grove as some kind of fund-raising arts variety festival, when in reality it is the setting for top powerbrokers to knock their heads together on issues directly affecting world events, in between frolicking naked, urinating on giant Redwood trees and engaging in bizarre rituals.

The Manhattan Project was conceived at the Grove in the early 1940s, and Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan met there in 1967 and agreed who would seek the presidency first.

Other members include George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Henry Kissinger, Alan Greenspan, David Rockefeller, Colin Powell, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and former secretaries of state George Shultz and James Baker.

290px-Reagon-nixon

In the past former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has attended the gathering, while in 2008 just months before the election, it was rumoured that both Barack Obama and John McCain attended.

In 2000 Alex Jones infiltrated the encampment and caught exclusive video footage of a bizarre mock human sacrifice ritual, known as “the cremation of care”, under a 40 foot stone owl that the members refer to as Molech.

Attendees dress up like Klan members in hooded robes and perform druidic pagan ceremonies to mark the spectacular finale of the event.

Nixon is on record discussing homosexual activity at the Grove, whilst it is also documented that male and female porn stars and prostitutes are shipped in for the annual retreat.

race-25616

A reader who got a summer job working at the Grove in 2005, Chris Jones, reported that he was regularly propositioned for sex by the old men attending the encampment and asked if he “slept around” and wanted to have some fun.

Jones was later sentenced to three years in jail by California authorities for simply showing a tape of his visit to minors.

The New York Times is the only mainstream news source to have covered the Grove this year, with the usual sardonic whitewash piece that ridicules anyone who has reservations or questions regarding the weird rituals that the robed attendees engage in:

“…the requisite summer-camp assembly of robed men, a 40-foot concrete owl, and a body burned in effigy (conspiracy theorists note: it is not a real body)… no, conspiracy theorists, the owl does not represent a demonic idol or any potato-chip concern.”

Oh I see, it’s not a real body, that’s perfectly normal then – after all, who doesn’t sneak out into the woods in a black robe and burn human effigies with their friends. every once in a while?

n49700570_31131567_2779

The piece also notes that some reporters have managed to sneak into the Grove in the past, and refers to Alex Jones’ infiltration in 2000:

“some returned with reports of drunken, gray-haired sophomores, while at least one saw evidence of the Trilateral Commission, the Illuminati and Beelzebub himself.”

It also revels in a lack of protesters outside this year’s gathering:

“For most of the last 30 years, protesters by the dozens and hundreds have agitated outside this dark-wooded lair… Yet the ritual on this day includes only one protester, bearded, lanky Brian Romanoff, 28, who has been working mostly alone since the two-week encampment began on July 16. He says he has adopted a nonconfrontational approach, better to spread the truth about the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings.”

The writer, Dan Barry, gives away his intentions when he refers to the fact that The Bohemian Club has appointed a public relations consultant, Sam Singer, who is clearly the source of the piece.

 NAPKIN

Another key note speaker at the Grove this year was Newscorp CEO Rupert Murdoch, who reportedly discussed “the future of news” earlier in the week, following revelations that his new paywall at the London Times has thus far resulted in dismal failure.

No doubt Murdoch had much to say about the rise of the alternative media and the blogosphere, and the threat to the elite monopoly on information that its exponential success constitutes.

Watch Alex Jones discuss the shocking footage he obtained during his 2000 infiltration of the Grove:

Once again, the power of alternative media has prevailed over the whitewash of corporate media’s obsession with celebrity drama and unimportant sports discussion.

Top 2 Google Searches on “Food: The Ultimate Secret Exposed” hotsearches

Today, the top two hot searches on Google Trends are “food the ultimate” and “the ultimate secret”. During the show on Friday, Alex asked listeners to search for these terms to find his detailed article and video concerning the secret toxic nature of modified foods. Within two hours, these phrases took the top two spots over celebrities like Laurence Fishburne, Steven Tyler, and Justin Bieber.

This is an example of how powerful alternative media is and another testament to the dedication and numbers of our great listeners. As we continue to fight the mainstream denial of real news and information, the truth is becoming harder for them to hide. Keep up the great work.

Copied below is the original article written by Alex Jones and Aaron Dykes titled, “Food: The Ultimate Secret Exposed“.

The grocery store, along with your kitchen sink, are two of the most dangerous places in the world.

In a special video, Alex Jones addresses one of the darkest modes of power the globalists have used to control the population– food. The adulteration of the planet’s staple crops, genetically-altered species and intentionally-altered water, food and air all amount to a Eugenics operation to weaken the masses and achieve full spectrum domination.

PART 1/2

People the world over, but especially in the United States are under chemical attack. Deadly and dangerous toxins ranging from Aspartame to Fluoride, GMO, Mercury-tainting, pesticides, cross-species chimeras, plastic compounds in chicken, high fructose corn syrup, cloned meat, rBGH and new aggressive GM species of salmon have all entered into our diets and environments– whether we want it or not.

PART 2/2

Many of these substances knowingly cause or are linked with sterility, low birth weight, miscarriages, smaller or deformed offspring, as well as organ failure, cancer, brain tumors and Death itself, what you DON’T know about on your grocery shelves can hurt you. Further, Alex demonstrates that a pattern of buried studies, fraudulent statistics and a will reduce global population all point to the deliberate criminal poisoning of the food and water supply.

Suffer no fools if those you show refuse to believe what is going on. Instead, research these important areas for yourself, and warn those you love about need to stop their food from being used as a Depopulation-weapon against us all. Please share this important video with everyone, so the truth about these substances can be known.

Food: The Ultimate Secret Exposed Addendum – Chemical BPA Linked to Medical Problems

The Alex Jones Channel
July 31, 2010

RODALE NEWS, EMMAUS, PA—A new study appearing in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that higher levels of the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in people’s urine were associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and liver problems. People with the highest BPA levels were twice as likely to suffer from diabetes or cardiovascular problems than those with lower levels.

THE DETAILS: Found in those hard-plastic water bottles we all carry, BPA is also used in the lining of some soda, food, and baby-formula cans. The hormonelike chemical has been linked to genital abnormalities, early puberty, cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and fertility problems in hundreds of animal studies. This latest study examined data previously collected from 1,455 adults between 18 and 74 years old.

Top 10 Declassified Secrets

1. The Templars and the Vatican

Templarsburning-1

In October 2007 the vatican published secret documents about the trial of the Knights Templar, including a parchment – long ignored because of a vague catalog entry in 1628 – showing that Pope Clement V initially absolved the medieval order of heresy.

The Vatican work reproduces the entire documentation of the papal hearings convened after King Philip IV of France arrested and tortured Templar leaders in 1307 on charges of heresy and immorality.

According to the Vatican archives website, the parchment shows that Clement initially absolved the Templar leaders of heresy, though he did find them guilty of immorality, and that he planned to reform the order.

However, pressured by King Philip (who threatened schism), Clement later reversed his decision and suppressed the order in 1312. Jacques de Molay, grand master of the Templars, was burned at the stake in 1314 along with his aides.

2. The Lost Bomb

Mk4

Classified documents obtained by a group of former workers at Thule, an Arctic air and radar base built by the United States in 1951-52, suggest that one of four hydrogen bombs on a B-52 bomber that crashed there in 1968 was never found, the daily Jyllands-Posten said “Detective work by a group of former Thule workers indicates that an unexploded nuclear bomb probably still lies on the seabed off Thule”, the mass-circulation daily said.

The crash, on January 21, 1968 led to a crisis in relations between the United States and NATO ally Denmark, which is responsible for Greenland’s foreign, security and defense policy and at the time prohibited nuclear weapons on its territory, including Greenland. Denmark was never informed about the lost bomb, which has serial number 78252, the paper said.

A U.S. state department document dated August 31, 1968 said all weapons onboard the crashed aircraft had been accounted for but did not spell out whether they had been recovered. The United States assured the Danish government in spring 1968 that clean-up work after the B-52 crash had been completed and gave up searching for the lost bomb in August that year.

Home to a ballistic missile early-warning radar station, Thule sits at the midpoint of a chain of similar sites between Alaska and the British Isles — a line along which the United States may build a shield against missiles from what it calls states of concern such as North Korea, Iraq, Iran and Libya.

3. U.S.S Liberty

The heavily damaged USS Liberty the day after the attack.

On June the 8th 1967, during the six day war, Israel deliberately attacked the intelligence collection ship USS Liberty, in full awareness it was a U.S. Navy ship, and did its best to sink it and leave no survivors.

The attack killed 34 U.S. servicemen and wounded at least 173.
Scores of intelligence analysts and senior officials have known this for years.

File:U123754.jpg

4. Dunblane Massacre

070504Dunblane1

The Dunblane killer Thomas Hamilton might have been stripped of his firearms licence had prosecutors heeded police reports about his worrying behaviour towards children, according to secret files.

These include claims that police were tipped off that Hamilton was armed and en route to Dunblane Primary School, that he was a Freemason and received favours from Masons in the police allowing him to avoid prosecution, and that he was part of a paedophile ring that included members of the security forces

. Lord Cullen on completing the public inquiry into the murders of 16 children and their teacher, ordered the documents in the case sealed for an extraordinary 100 years.

Even the major media in Scotland thought this smelled funny. What was being hidden?

The report banned under the 100-year rule was com piled by Paul Hughes, then a detective sergeant with Central Scotland police, and concerns Thomas Hamilton’s activities at a summer camp in Loch Lomond in 1991, five years before the shootings.

Selected extracts published during the Cullen inquiry revealed that it recommended Hamilton should be prosecuted for his activities at the summer camp and that he should have his gun licence revoked. The report, however, was ignored.

In October 2004, former conservative party chairman Lord Tebbit added his voice to the growing outrage at this decision, and in October 2005 half of the files were opened.

Press reports suggested that the papers showed Hamilton be a paranoid obsessive, much given to writing letters of complaint to all and sundry; a paedophile ring has not been found.

5. Operation Paperclip

400Px-Vonbraunteam1959

Convinced that German scientists could help America’s postwar efforts, President Harry Truman agreed in September 1946 to authorize “Project Paperclip,” a program to bring selected German scientists to work on America’s behalf during the “Cold War”.

The highest proflie of these scientist was Wernher Von Braun the man who masterminded the Moon shots, and a member of numerous Nazi organisations, he also held rank in the SS. His initial intelligence file described him as “a security risk”.

The US operation saw von Braun and more than 700 others spirited out of Germany from under the noses of the US’s allies. Interesting side piece: do some snooping and find out what and who links Werner von Braun and L. Ron Hubbard.

6. Plame Affair

01Ascooter

Beginning in mid July 2003, according to federal court records, Bush administration officials, including Richard Armitage, Karl Rove, and Lewis Libby, discussed with various reporters the employment of a then-classified, covert, CIA officer, Valerie E. Wilson (also known as Valerie Plame).

On September 16, 2003, the CIA sent a letter to the US Department of Justice asserting that Plame’s status as a CIA undercover operative was classified information and requested a federal investigation. Attorney General John Ashcroft referred the matter to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Special Counsel, directed by Patrick Fitzgerald, who convened a grand jury.

The “CIA leak” grand jury investigation did not result in the indictment or conviction of anyone for any crime in connection with the leak itself. However, I. Lewis Libby, Chief of Staff of Vice President Dick Cheney was indicted on five counts of obstruction of justice, perjury, and false statements to the grand jury and federal investigators on October 28, 2005; Libby resigned hours after the indictment.

7. My Lai Massacre

My Lai Massacre

The My Lai Massacre was the mass murder of 347 to 504 unarmed citizens of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). They were almost entirely civilians, the majority of them women and children. The massacre was conducted by U.S. Army forces on March 16, 1968. Before being killed some of the victims were raped and sexually molested, beaten, tortured, or maimed. Some of the dead bodies were also mutilated.

Six months later, Tom Glen, a 21-year-old soldier of the 11th Light Infantry Brigade, wrote a letter to General Creighton Abrams, the new overall commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam, accusing the Americal Division (and other entire units of the U.S. military) of routine and pervasive brutality against Vietnamese civilians. The letter was detailed and its contents echoed complaints received from other soldiers.

Colin Powell, then a 31-year-old Army Major, was charged with investigating the letter, which did not specifically reference My Lai (Glen had limited knowledge of the events there).

In his report Powell wrote: “In direct refutation of this portrayal is the fact that relations between American soldiers and the Vietnamese people are excellent.” Powell’s handling of the assignment was later characterized by some observers as “whitewashing” the atrocities of My Lai.

In May 2004, Powell, then United States Secretary of State, told CNN’s Larry King, “I mean, I was in a unit that was responsible for My Lai. I got there after My Lai happened. So, in war, these sorts of horrible things happen every now and again, but they are still to be deplored.” further info from the BBC in 1988.

8. Operation Gladio

File:Gladio.png

US documents declassified in the 1970’s show that General Giovanni de Lorenzo, the chief of Sifar (Italian Military Intelligence), joined the US in the 1950’s in preparing a plan against a Communist takeover, but did not inform his own government. According to a document released by Mr Andreotti the CIA and Sifar sketched a plan in November 1956, codenamed Gladio, to form a force of 1000 men capable of guerilla warfare and espionage. A training base was set-up in Sardinia and 139 weapons and ammunition dumps were hidden in Northern Italy.

Gladio was controlled by NATO’s Clandestine Planning Committee; attached to Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Powers in Europe. It was appropriate that the documentaries should be made by the BBC, since Britain’s MI6 and SAS were key movers and trainers, along with the CIA, in the Gladio operation.

In 1990 the Italian secret army was exposed by Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti to the Italian Senate, whereupon the press spoke of “The best kept, and most damaging, political-military secret since World War II”.

Photobucket

“On the morning of August 2, 1980, a massive bomb exploded in the waiting room of the central train station in Bologna, killing 81 people and injuring 200 others. General Santorito, the chief of Italy’s military intelligence agency, SISMI testified in the wake of the bombing that it had been planned by the British-Swiss-American ‘Montecarlo Comite’ based in Monaco.”

Google has unfortunatley removed the first two episodes of a three part documentary on Operation Gladio. Part three is shown above.

9. Operation Northwoods

233

According to secret and long-hidden documents, the Joint Chiefs of Staff drew up and approved plans for what may be the most corrupt plan ever created by the U.S. government – a fake terrorist attack on citizens.

Code named Operation Northwoods, the plan, which had the written approval of the Chairman and every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called for innocent people to be shot on American streets; for boats carrying refugees fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas; for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere.

People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving Lemnitzer and his cabal the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war.

One idea seriously considered involved the launch of John Glenn, the first American to orbit the earth. On February 20, 1962, Glenn was to lift off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on his historic journey. The flight was to carry the banner of America’s virtues of truth, freedom, and democracy into orbit high over the planet. But Lemnitzer and his Chiefs had a different idea. They proposed to Lansdale that, should the rocket explode and kill Glenn, “the objective is to provide irrevocable proof that the fault lies with the Communists et al Cuba. 10. Churchill and Hitler’s Execution

Winston Churchill 1943 The Famous Victory Salute

Sir Winston Churchill, Britain’s wartime Prime Minister, planned to execute Adolf Hitler in the electric chair if the Nazi leader fell into Allied hands.

Declassified documents reveal that Churchill was opposed to Allied plans for war crimes trials and wanted summarily to execute leading Nazi figures including Hitler who he regarded as “the mainspring of evil” and a “gangster”, and was also content to see Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi starve to death during a hunger strike in 1943.

They also show that he was willing, against the advice of his Cabinet colleagues, to “wipe out” defenceless German villages in retaliation for Nazi atrocities in Czechoslovakia.

Churchill’s choice of the electric chair was despite the fact that it was never used in Britain before the final abolition of the death penalty in 1965. source.

The Lazy Mans Guide to Extracting Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark

A guide for a new quick and easy method of extracting MHRB
by Sphere

DMT

dmt_crystal1

The short story about this tek: This was the first MHRB tek on the net for extracting the desired alkaloid from MHRB using broken or solid pieces of root bark without the need to powder the material. If you choose to powder the root bark the waterless de-fat method without the need for acid uses only solvent and has proven to work well with any kind of powdered alkaloid bearing root bark.
Advantages: : Compared to earlier A-B process teks requiring acid and a pH meter or papers the extraction techniques used in this tek require far less time and work as well as reduces the need to buy much of anything extra other than perhaps NaOH and solvent. If you have good plant material which contains the alkaloid you seek this tek will assure success because you can continue working with the root bark which stays in the NaOH adjusted or high pH basified water along with the solvent used to soak up the alkaloid the entire time you are extracting the material until you get what you are after. No need to powder the root bark, just break into small pieces and extract whole, no need for the use of a separation funnel or baggies modified to act as one.
Extraction yields from one pound of inner MHRB: First extraction cycle: 1 gram in 2.5 hrs. Second extraction cycle; 4 more grams 7 hours later, third extraction cycle; 2.5 more grams 38.5 hours later for a total of 7.5 grams in 48 hours of soaking the root bark in the basified water with multiple extractions to the same plant material performed as outlined below.
Equipment: 5 Litre ceramic mixing bowl, Potato masher, 2000 ml measuring cup, Large flat glass baking pan, Fan, VM&P Naphtha; hardware store, NaOH sodium hydroxide; online auction, often listed as Red Devil Lye.
Foreword: At the date of this writing, Oct. 2006 this process is much simpler than all of the other extraction teks for Mimosa hostilis root bark I have seen. All you need to do is submerge whole broken pieces of root bark into water which has had a measured amount of NaOH/sodium hydroxide dissolved into it, wait an hour, add naphtha, stir for a few minutes and then pour the naphtha off into a collection container for evaporation. In essence that is all there is to this tek. No need to fuss with acidifying the root bark for a defat, no pH papers needed, no separatory funnel, nothing fancy yet this is a very effective technique with higher yields than any other method out there yet.

Mimosa_Hostilis

The tek at its most basic:

Put lots of lye NaOH in water…
Add pieces of broken root bark, wait an hour or two to soften and mash into fluid…
Add naphtha and stir a few minutes…
Separate and evaporate…
Here is a more detailed explanation of the extraction method using a half kilo of root bark:

Break 400 to 500 grams of Mimosa hostilis root bark, whether inner, outer or whole root into small enough pieces all of it will fit into a large ceramic or stainless steel mixing bowl with enough room left over to only fill the bowl half way to the top. Next, completely dissolve 200 grams of NaOH/sodium hydroxide into 2000-3000 ml of tap water and add to the root bark.
Wait an hour for the lye/sodium hydroxide to soften up the root bark and then using a stainless steel potato masher stir and mash the base adjusted water into the pieces of root bark for 20-30 minutes and then pour in 250+ ml of naphtha into the bowl and mix for another 20-30 minutes. After you are done mixing the root bark let it sit for a few minutes so that any emulsion which might have stirred up into the solvent to settle out and then just pour the majority of the solvent off of the top of the basified aqueous mix into a large flat glass baking pan and evaporate with a fan blowing air across the top of the fluid to net 600-1000 mg of alkaloid in just a few hours.
Is there any easier process to extract and isolate that much alkaloid in two to three hours from a pound of root bark? Although the initial yield will be much higher if extracting powdered root bark which takes much less time, whole or broken root bark can also provide high yields if you wait two or three days for the hard strips of bark to turn into a mush as the NaOH breaks it down further and further over time in the basified solution for a higher extraction yield. If waiting 24 hours and performing a single extraction the broken root bark the basified aqueous mix will still need to be extracted over again three or more times to get more of the alkaloid out. That’s it, a very simple process with yields others have reported to be much higher than the more often used A-B or acid to base teks. With dried Mimosa hostilis root bark the alkaloid is already in the form of a salt as is and there are so little plant fats many people simply do not bother with a defat cycle so going strait to base chemical works out very well with this material.

DMT_(extracted_from_Mimosa_hostilis).16972

Dry defat (no water) without acid

A defat process is not normally needed for MHRB due to its very low fat content. However, if you desire to do so here is a way of removing fats without the need to go through an A-B cycle and without the use of water.

The alkaloid is already in the form of a salt when in the dried root bark and does not require acid and water, just directly defat the powdered root bark with solvent now.
Although Mimosa hostilis root bark extracts fairly cleanly with minimal plant fats if you want to remove what little of it there is you can do so without adding an acid to the powder with water by just mixing the dry (no water present) root bark powder into enough naphtha to allow all of the powder to be freely stirred up into the fluid for a few minutes and then filtered out of the naphtha which is then discarded. For an extreme defat heat the naphtha to near its boiling point and then stir the powder into it but be sure to pour off every drop of naphtha you can when done and throw that naphtha away, you should not use it for anything more in the process. Once you are done with the solvent defat the root bark powder is then dumped into the basified mix, as is and wet with naphtha if you like, or after drying. No harm adding root bark with a little naphtha still soaked into it from the defat, you are just going to end up pouring more naphtha in anyway. This "dry" defat without water works very well to remove what fats there are but is not really needed if extracting the plant material at room temperature.
Note: When the solvent was evaporated from the defat process there was no discernible amount of alkaloid present, only orange fats. When this tek was first posted on the net on another forum someone speculated that these fats might contain the compound from MHRB which will make the alkaloid active when swallowed without the need for MAOI. I have not confirmed this report.

mimosa-hostilis-jurema

Step by step guide for the above using a pound of root bark.

If you want to use more or less root bark fraction or multiply out everything specified in this tech for smaller or larger amounts:
1. Break a pound or 454 grams of dried of Mimosa hostilis root bark into small pieces so that no piece is longer than three inches allowing them to all nicely fit into the bottom of a large 5 liter mixing bowl with lots of extra room left over and set to the side.
2. Prepare some basified water by fully dissolving 200 grams (~13 measured tablespoons full) of NaOH/sodium hydroxide lye powder into 2 liters of tap water in a large measuring cup.
3. Add the basified water you just made to the bowl of broken root bark, stir for a few minutes and set aside for two or more hours (longer is better).
4. After soaking the root bark in high pH NaOH adjusted water (which is near a pH of 13.5 or more) for a couple of hours or more take a stainless steel potato masher and start mashing the broken root as best you can in the basified water for 20-30 minutes (longer is better).
5. After you are done mashing the root bark for a few minutes (which will still be fairly stiff if only soaking 2 hours) then add 250 to 400 ml of clean room temperature naphtha (more makes separation from the soup easier) and stir the solvent into the aqueous mix for 20-30 minutes (longer is better).
6. After mixing the naphtha into the bowl pour as much of the solvent as you can easily get off of the top of the aqueous mix (naphtha floats on top in water as a distinct layer) into another container, leaving all of the dark soup behind which will be extracted over again later. Be sure not to allow any of the dark water or any of the bubbly emulsion which may have formed in the solvent to go out with it, you just want clear solvent now leaving everything else behind in the bowl.
Note: If you have so much emulsion that the solvent is half filled with it wait a few minutes to an hour for it to settle out so you can get more of the solvent out.
7. Take all of the clear naphtha without any water or bubbles in it you have carefully separated from the basified mix of water and root bark and pour all of it into as large a flat glass container you can find for evaporation. Using a fan to blow air across the top of the fluid will help speed the rate of evaporation several fold faster.
8. After all of the naphtha has been evaporated you will find small white bumps of extract stuck to the glass which can be scraped off with a flat blade. If you also see some shiny clear film on the glass it is best to wait until they completely solidify into a white deposit before scraping off together with the larger white clumps.

BASIC WARNINGS!

Warning: Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles at all times when working with this solution as well as any other appropriate personal protection you might need. Be careful working with solvents, be aware of static sparks, open flame or possible electrical sources of ignition and work in a well ventilated area! These are just basic warnings, think about what you are doing and how caustic high pH adjusted water and or NaOH can be!
Warning: When mixing NaOH powder into water add only very small amounts of powder to the water at a time, relatively large amounts of NaOH added to a small volume of water can cause extreme heat and out gassing as well as splattering water and chemical in your face or on your body!

Extraction notes

When this extraction process was first tried with inner root bark 1.0 grams of very white alkaloid without discernible fat impurities was extracted from beginning to end in just 2 and a half hours and that includes the time to fan evaporate the naphtha in a broad flat glass pan. Of course, the aqueous mix of root bark needs to be extracted over to get more of the alkaloid out of the mix but you can get plenty of extract for unspecified uses in a short amount of time this way with a minimal amount of elbow grease and time.

Soaking the root bark in basified water

The broken inner root bark was soaked in 2 liters of water with 75 grams of NaOH dissolved into it for 1 hour before trying to mash the root bark in the basified water with a potato masher. The bark almost immediately became a dark black color and the water soon after became very dark brown colored which after 30 minutes of working the root bark with a masher started to appear more black than brown.

The first extraction cycle:

After that 400 ml of naphtha was poured into the aqueous basified mix which was then stirred for 30 minutes with a potato masher so that the solvent would absorb the alkaloid released from the root bark by the high pH water. I recommend using 300-400 ml of solvent per extraction to make separation from the basified portion of the mix easier. Then the naphtha was carefully and slowly poured off the top of the aqueous mix into another container for full evaporation to net a full gram of white alkaloid from 500 grams of inner Mimosa hostilis root bark without powdering it.

Second extraction, NaOH doubled:

Right after this first extraction a test was done to see if increasing the amount of NaOH would increase the yield so 75 more grams of sodium hydroxide was dissolved into ~750 ml of additional water and added to the mix with 400 more ml of naphtha poured into the bowl which was stirred again for close to 30 minutes and carefully separated from the mix for evaporation. With the amount of NaOH doubled the yield was found to be 50% greater at 1.5 grams of alkaloid and because of this I recommend a minimum of 150 grams of NaOH for 2 liters of water when extracting 250 to 500 grams of broken root bark and from 200-250 grams of this base per 3+ liters of water when extracting from 500 to 1000 grams of broken root bark.

6157966f9b9e2f3L (1)

Third extraction:

After the first two extractions the root bark was extracted a third time right way. 400 ml of fresh solvent was added to the mix again and stirred for 30 minutes before pouring the naphtha off for evaporation to yield about ~1.25 grams on the third try that day, all in just a few hours. From there another 400 ml of naphtha (which is way more than needed on a solubility basis) was added to the brown to black appearing aqueous solution, covered to prevent further evaporation and put away to soak for close to 24 hours.

Forth extraction, long soak:

After another day the root bark had become far softer and almost slimy instead of stiff root bark as it had been the day before, the NaOH clearly doing its job at breaking the plant material down. The solvent from this forth long term extraction was evaporated to yield another 1.5 grams of white extract for a total of close to 5 grams of impure alkaloid from 500 grams of inner root bark from the four extractions spread over 30+ hours from when the root bark was first placed in the bowl.

Fifth extraction, another 24 hours and warming:

For this fifth extraction of the aqueous solution naphtha was added into the bowl and allowed to sit another 24 hours before pouring the naphtha off for evaporation. An hour before pouring it off the mix was warmed to 120 degrees F. and stirred for 20 minutes. Upon evaporation it was found that the warming had made quite a difference, even after having extracted the mix four times prior nearly 2 grams of alkaloid was pulled into the solvent this time which was more than any of the previous single extractions, even greater than the first or second which you would naturally assume would be greater. Part of the reason for this might be that the root bark had soaked in the basified solution longer releasing more alkaloid to the water and also part due to both the basified mix and solvent being warm but in any case the draw was highest on the fifth extraction of the solution bringing the total net up to ~6.5 grams with more left in the root bark to get out, all from 500 grams of inner root bark.

Sixth extraction, more heat caused problems:

A sixth and last extraction was performed to the mix by pouring 500 ml of fresh naphtha back into the bowl, stirring for a few minutes and then heating the aqueous solution under the naphtha to 130 degrees F. for an hour, stirring often. The temperature of the naphtha floating on top of the basified solution was measured to be 10-15 degrees cooler than the basified mix below it due to what I assume was being caused by cooling as the solvent evaporated off the top, even though a fairly slow rate of evaporation. After an hour at 130 F. the warm naphtha was poured off for rapid fan evaporation in the large flat glass pan which yielded close to 2 grams of yellowish extract (only becoming yellow after solidifying, clear until then) but this time upon cooling did not firm up very quickly and even after 8 hours was a very soft sticky extract which was obviously mostly the desired alkaloid as indicated by both smell and crystalline formations but would not dry into a firm wax-like substance very quickly due to what I believe might be fatty impurities released from the root bark when heated too far in the base solution.

brain2

Extraction advice; soak longer, extract more with less work:

Instead of all of the multiple extractions one after the other you could save yourself some work by just throwing 500 grams of broken pieces of root bark into 2 liters of water with 200 grams of NaOH dissolved into the water and then pour in 750 ml of naphtha and set the whole container aside for three days, stirring just once a day for 20 minutes at a time. After three days the solvent from a single draw of the aqueous mix should contain far more alkaloid, maybe has high as two thirds the total amount pulled out in four separate draws done over 24 hours. Obviously, even after letting the mix sit for three days and a very successful first big pull of the alkaloid from the mix you will need to re-extract the aqueous solution with more naphtha at least three times to get the bulk of the alkaloid out but then you could probably still continue extracting the mix a half dozen times or more and still get more of the alkaloid out each time, although ever diminishing returns. You just have to decide how much you want to get out of the mix before considering it a waste of time or solvent to continue working at it.

Notes on separating the naphtha from the aqueous mix:

When separating the naphtha from the NaOH/water/root you may need to first pour the solvent off the top of the mix into a large measuring cup allowing some of the dark basified water to come over with it so that you can more easily pour the solvent off using the small spout on the measuring cup because when pouring the solvent out of a bowl it is difficult to control what pours out.

To warm or not to warm the basified mix of root bark:

Although the majority of the alkaloid had been extracted at room temperature for this extraction it was found that the amount of alkaloid extracted is greater when the mix is warmed up to 100 degrees F. – Whether it is a good idea to warm highly basified alkaloid containing plant material I do not know. Although the yield was greater in a shorter amount of time on that last draw at over 130 degrees F. the extract was different, although clear before complete evaporation of the naphtha it turned a yellow color and remained as a syrup-like liquid for two days, although which took days to begin to crystallize yet it appears to be fairly high percentage purity by both smell and appearance when it does crystallize. Perhaps heating the mix allows plant fats to come over which did not do so before?
When soaking the root bark in the warmed solution be sure to periodically check the temperature to make sure the solution does not go over 120 F. or you might get a lot of the gummy impurities in the extract which showed up when I did so. Even though I am recommending 100 degrees F. and suggesting an upper limit of 120 degrees F. even 100 F might be too warm if over a long enough period of time which may have caused some of the gummy substance to come over into the solvent at ~130+ degrees to be extracted. To assure this substance does not extract along with the alkaloid it might be better to just leave the solution at normal room temperatures while soaking the bark in the aqueous mix for 72+ hours and only raise the solution to 120 degrees F. for an hour prior to pouring the solvent off for evaporation.
If you decide to heat your basified mix with naphtha in it for hours to days as the root bark is broken down by the NaOH cover the container with kitchen plastic wrap or something to slow the evaporation of the naphtha. After 48 hours the root bark is broken down pretty good by the lye to where it becomes fairly soft and extracts well but if you are using powdered root bark I do not believe it would be necessary to soak the bark for that long a period of time at all, probably just an hour or more should be enough to chemically break the powder itself down further for a higher extraction yield.
There is a report that the alkaloid will break down in solution over time, more easily if at high pH. I have not been able to verify this is the truth yet.

We Are Change San Francisco confronts David de Rothschild on Climategate, sustainability agenda

Aaron Dykes
Infowars.com
August 2, 2010

Members of We Are Change San Francisco caught up with David de Rothschild, heir to the notorious Rothschild family, and asked him some relevant questions.

Heir to a global system of manipulation, lies and enslavement for the average family, David de Rothschild has put his reputation on the line to push for climate change taxation. David de Rothschild shilled for the Copenhagen climate summit and stumped for his ‘earth saving’ plastiki boat that runs on human feces fuel. He has boldly advocated carbon taxes that hisfamily’s carbon exchange firm would benefit directly from. He has even gone so far in the name of arguing for phony global warming as to claim that icecaps melt on Mars because the planet is closer to the Sun than Earth.

Now David de Rothschild is even taking on crowds and talking to ordinary people to redeem support for phony climate change legislation. At one moment in the video, he attempts to explain away the impact of Climategate in his presentation. Rothschild claims he appreciates the ‘skepticism’ of the public over global warming, but calls it a “futile debate,” arguing that other environmental factors still demand our action… and carbon policing laws.

Members of We Are Change San Francisco then had a chance to chat with David after his talk.

One member asked, “What’s more important, the sustainability you’re talking about, or the 99% of the public who will feel the crunch of dramatically reducing their consumption.”

Rothschild answered, “It’s both. They are one in the same. You can’t separate the two. I think what we have to do is move from a product-based society to a service-based society.”

Editor’s Translation: Yes to feeling the crunch. Expect to see an economy with no manufacturing, where the only jobs available are service jobs, and those will be tightly controlled by the green police and (green) tax collectors.

Rothschild was also asked if population reduction would fit ‘conveniently’ into the sustainability agenda. He shrugged, “Well, nature has a way of doing that.” He made no mention, however, of the depopulation agenda that has been an obsession of the global elite, including his clan, for over a century.

Rothschild also commented that “GM is whack,” an “off-the-cuff” slang remark he used to note both his and the public’s opposition to genetically-modified foods. However, while they could be forced on the majority of the population, Rothschild, like other members of the Super Class, have access to their own supply of unadulterated foods and are unlikely to encounter such tainted and potentially dangerous food stocks.

Nevertheless, he did engage the public; that says something. There has been a noted disaster of public confidence following the Climategate scandal. Though ‘investigations’ cleared the particular professors’ names, the real blow from the leaked documents was the distrust it brought out in their previously willing suckers. Rothschild and everyone else are desperate– in as much as they wish to still push climate laws– to win back the masses. That even means ‘joking’ about Internet rumors that his family descend from a line of rather ‘lizard-like’ ancestors. Ha?

Dumbing-Down Society: How to Reverse its Effects

The Vigilent Citizen
Aug 2, 2010

The first two parts of this series describes the negative effects that some commonly consumed chemicals have on the body and brain. This third and final part looks at some natural ways to keep the brain healthy and provides tips to rid the body of dangerous substances. In other words, how to fight back against the dumbing down of society!

Dumbing Down Society: How to Reverse its Effects leadumb3

Parts I and II of this series of articles identified some toxic substances found in common foods and medicines and described some of their effects on the human brain. The main culprits discussed were aspartame, mercury, fluoride and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Whether these substances disturb the nervous system, decrease cognitive function, impair judgment, or affect the memory, the net result is the general dumbing down of society.

All is not doom and gloom, however. Nature, with its wonderful tendency to restore equilibrium, provides us humans the cure to almost any affliction we might develop. Ancient healers even believed that nature helped humans discover the cure to their illnesses in subtle and mysterious ways:

“The plant might also be considered worthy of veneration because from its crushed leaves, petals, stalks, or roots could be extracted healing unctions, essences, or drugs affecting the nature and intelligence of human beings – such as the poppy and the ancient herbs of prophecy. The plant might also be regarded as efficacious in the cure of many diseases because its fruit, leaves, petals, or roots bore a resemblance in shape or color to parts or organs of the human body. For example, the distilled juices of certain species of ferns, also the hairy moss growing upon oaks, and the thistledown were said to have the power of growing hair; the dentaria, which resembles a tooth in shape, was said to cure the toothache; and the palma Christi plant, because of its shape, cured all afflictions of the hands.”

So, after dwelling in the awful world of poisonous chemicals and corrupted officials, the only fitting way to conclude this series of articles is to explore the all-natural ways to restore health.

Stop the Toxification

Warning: This article provides tips to naturally detoxify the body. If you are in need of a serious detox program, please consult a professional.

The first step in ridding your body from poisons is, quite logically, to stop ingesting poisons. It sounds simple enough, but this step is probably the most difficult, as many toxins are found in everyday foods and even tap water. An increased vigilance is necessary in everyday life and, sometimes, some annoying actions must be taken to keep the toxins out of your body. Nevertheless, once you actually feel your body and mind healing, you’ll be proud of your efforts.

Before we look at the ways to avoid specific toxins, here are some general guidelines any health-conscious person should apply at all times: Avoid processed foods and artificial drinks. Instead, look for organic and locally grown produce or, even better, grow your own fruits, vegetables and herbs. By doing so, you automatically avoid many harmful substances, including MSG, HFCS, pesticides, sodium fluoride and mercury. You also save money, which is always nice. When buying groceries, always read the labels and, as they say, if you can’t read it, don’t eat it.

Here are specific ways to avoid particular toxins:

Avoiding Fluoride

There are two types of fluoride: calcium fluoride and sodium fluoride. Calcium fluoride is naturally found in water sources, while sodium fluoride is a synthetic waste product of the nuclear, aluminum, and phosphate fertilizer industries. Guess which type is found in our water? Right, the nasty one. Regular water filters such as Brita do a good job in reducing the taste of metals and chemicals in the water but they do not filter out the fluoride. Purifying the water through reverse osmosis is the most effective way to remove sodium fluoride from water.

Some processed foods also contain high concentrations of sodium fluoride, including instant tea, grape juice products, and soy milk for babies, so once again, avoid processed foods. Also, switch to a fluoride-free toothpaste (or at least try not to swallow the $0.93 Colgate you bought at Walmart).

Consuming foods rich in calcium and magnesium help prevent fluoride intoxication, as they prevent the poison from attaching to the body.

“Magnesium is a very important mineral that many are lacking. Besides being so important in the metabolism and synthesis of nutrients within your cells, it also inhibits the absorption of fluoride into your cells! Along with magnesium, calcium seems to help attract the fluorides away from your bones and teeth, allowing your body to eliminate those toxins. So during any detox efforts with fluoride, it is essential that you include a healthy supplemental dose of absorbable calcium/magnesium as part of the protocol.”
– Paul Fassa, How to Detox Fluoride from Your Body

Avoiding Mercury

First, if you or your children are being vaccinated, always request a Thimerosal-free shot. Second, avoid fish and seafood with high mercury levels; fish with the highest levels of mercury are marlin, orange roughy, shark, swordfish, tilefish and tuna (ahi, albacore and Yellowfin). Some seafood has low mercury levels, making them safer to consume, including anchovies, catfish, clam, crab, shrimp, flounder, salmon, sardine, tilapia and trout. As rule of thumb, bigger fish contain more mercury since they eat smaller fish and absorb all their mercury, and live longer, allowing mercury to build up.

As seen in Part II of this series, some foods containing HFCS are also contaminated with mercury. Here’s the chart produced by the EPA:

Avoiding Aspartame

Always read labels and avoid “sugar-free” products. Aspartame is found in soft drinks, over-the-counter drugs & prescription drugs (very common, listed under “inactive ingredients”), vitamin & herb supplements, yogurt, candy, breath mints, cereals, sugar-free chewing gum, cocoa mixes, coffee beverages, instant breakfasts, gelatin desserts, frozen desserts, juice beverages, laxatives, milk drinks, shake mixes, tabletop sweeteners, tea beverages, instant teas and coffees, topping mixes and wine coolers.

Avoiding HFCS

Read the labels and if you find high fructose corn syrup at the top the list of ingredients, tell the product “oh no you didn’t!”, snap your fingers with attitude and put it back on the shelf. Ignore the confused looks of other shoppers.

We will now look at some all-natural ways to detox the body from harmful substances.

Cilantro

The standard procedure for removing heavy metals from the body is called “chelation.” It is accomplished by administering a chelating agent – usually dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) – that binds to the heavy metals in the body and cause them to be naturally flushed out. This type of treatment is quite strenuous, has many side-effects and should be undertaken only with medical supervision.

If, however, you believe that ridding the body of a harsh substance with another harsh substance might be self-defeating, I tend to agree with you. Fortunately there are herbs and spices that naturally act as chelating agents: Cilantro does a great job at it.

The most widely used and loved herbs and spices worldwide are derived from the same plant, Coriandrum sativum. The leaves of this plant are frequently referred to as cilantro, while the seeds are most commonly called coriander. Other than making any dish spectacular, the herb has the unique power of neutralizing mercury.

“This kitchen herb is capable of mobilizing mercury, cadmium, lead and aluminum in both bones and the central nervous system. It is probably the only effective agent in mobilizing mercury stored in the intracellular space (attached to mitochondria, tubulin, liposomes etc) and in the nucleus of the cell (reversing DNA damage of mercury).”
– Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD, Chelation: How to remove Mercury, Lead, & other Metals

Studies have however suggested that cilantro only moves the problem to other parts of the body and thus must be used with another agent to complete the detoxification process.

Chlorella: Cilantro’s Side-Kick

In addition to repairing and activating the body’s detoxification functions, chlorella is known to bind to all known toxic metals and environmental toxins and facilitate their evacuation. This makes chlorella cilantro’s perfect sidekick.

“Because cilantro mobilizes more toxins then it can carry out of the body, it may flood the connective tissue (where the nerves reside) with metals, that were previously stored in safer hiding places.

This process is called re-toxification. It can easily be avoided by simultaneously giving an intestinal toxin-absorbing agent. Our definite choice is the algal organism chlorella. A recent animal study demonstrated rapid removal of aluminum from the skeleton superior to any known other detox agent.

Cilantro causes the gallbladder to dump bile — containing the excreted neurotoxins — into the small intestine. The bile-release occurs naturally as we are eating and is much enhanced by cilantro. If no chlorella is taken, most neurotoxins are reabsorbed on the way down the small intestine by the abundant nerve endings of the enteric nervous system”

Garlic

We may not be sure if garlic actually repels vampires, but we can be certain it repels toxins from the body.

“Garlic contains numerous sulphur components, including the most valuable sulph-hydryl groups, which oxidize mercury, cadmium and lead and make these metals water-soluble. (…) Garlic also contains the most important mineral, which protects from mercury toxicity, bioactive selenium.”
– Ibid

So, garlic zaps mercury and lead and helps the body evacuate the metals from the body. Perhaps bad breath is the way to good health.

Turmeric (Curcuma)

This plant from the ginger family is widely used in Southeast Asia as a spice and its cleaning powers have been renowned for centuries. Turmeric is enshrined in Ayurvedic medicine as the king of spices. The bitter spice helps cleanse the liver, purify the blood, and promotes good digestion and elimination. It possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties, but none of the unpleasant side effects of anti-inflammatory drugs. It has been used for skin cleansing, color enhancement and food preservation.

Turmeric steps up the production of three enzymes-aryl-hydrocarbon-hydroxylase, glutathione-S-transferase, and UDP-glucuronyl-transferase. These are chemical “knives” that break down potentially harmful substances in the liver. Turmeric offers similar protection for people who are taking medications such as methotrexate and other forms of chemotherapy, which are metabolized by, or shuttled through, the liver.

– James A. Dukes, Ph D., Dr. Duke’s Essential Herbs

Scientific studies have recently discovered that mixing black pepper with tumeric exponentially increases its healing properties on the body. No wonder traditional South Asian recipes often combine the two spices. So don’t hold back … grind some black pepper into that tumeric!

Omega-3

It is not a secret that consuming the fatty acids found in fish brings many healthy benefits. The acids do wonders for our brains. In fact, Omega-3 is literally our brain’s fuel, helping to maintain its core functions. Our most important organ heavily relies on Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), two long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids that our bodies cannot create. The only way to obtain those acids is through diet.

“Most health professionals believe that DHA is the fatty acid that is most important for healthy structure and development of the brain and for vision so it is vital that there is enough DHA in the diet during pregnancy and in the first few years of a child’s life. EPA on the other hand, is essential for healthy functioning of the brain on a day to day basis, which means that throughout your life you need a constant supply of EPA.”
– David McEnvoy, Why Fish Oil is Brain Fuel

Here are some facts about Omega-3 that are of particular interest in the context of those articles:

  • Research by the University of Western Australia found that women who took fish oil supplements during the latter part of their pregnancy had babies with better hand-to-eye coordination, were better speakers and could understand more at the age of two and a half than babies whose mothers who were given olive oil instead.
  • A study by Aberdeen University, led by professor Lawrence Whalley, found that fish oil helps the brain to work faster, increases IQ scores and slows down the aging process.
  • The Durham trials led by Dr. Madeleine Portwood have consistently found that fish oil improves behaviour, concentration and learning in the classroom.
  • Researcher Natalie Sinn in Australia found fish oil to be more effective than Ritalin for ADHD.
  • Hibbeln et al. looked at diet in 22 countries and found an significant association between low fish consumption and post-natal depression.
  • Dr. Malcolm Peet found that ethyl-EPA, a highly concentrated form of Omega 3, dramatically reduces depression.

Fish oil also plays an important role in ridding the brain of unwanted substances:

“The fatty acid complexes EPA and DHA in fish oil make the red and white blood cells more flexible thus improving the microcirculation of the brain, heart and other tissues. All detoxification functions depend on optimal oxygen delivery and blood flow. EPA and DHA protect the brain from viral infections and are needed for the development of intelligence and eyesight. The most vital cell organelle for detoxification is the peroxisome. These small structures are also responsible for the specific job each cell has.

In the pineal gland the melatonin is produced in the peroxisome, in the neurons dopamine and norepinephrine, etc. It is here, where mercury and other toxic metal attach and disable the cell from doing its work.”
– Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD, Chelation: How to remove Mercury, Lead, & other Metals

That is all well and good, but what are the best sources of fish oil? Consuming large quantities of fish would be the logical choice, but knowing that many species contain high levels of mercury, doing so might actually cause further damage to the brain. For this reason, Omega-3 supplements are probably the best way to keep the body well-stocked with EPA and DHA.

When selecting an Omega-3 supplement, you need to make sure it is molecularly distilledand is high in both DHA and EPA, especially DHA. Molecular distillation is a special process that removes all the toxins from the oil (including mercury), ensuring it is safe for human consumption. Avoid low-grade products. They often contain low levels of fatty acids and are filled with other oils and preservatives.

Final Advice: Sleep, Sweat and Stimulate

Dumbing Down Society: How to Reverse its Effects footballers test e1280112196293

  • Sufficient sleep is vital to keeping the body and the brain in good condition. Conversely, sleep deprivation impairs one’s ability to think handle stress, maintain a healthy immune system and moderate one’s emotions.
  • Regular exercise is critically important for detoxification. It allows the evacuation of toxins through skin while improving the entire metabolism.
  • Stimulate your brain: read, think, meditate and challenge it constantly.

In Conclusion

This article examines the ways to avoid harmful substances in everyday products and looks at a handful of all-natural ways to free the body from their poisonous grasp. In addition to providing us the necessary nutrients used by the body to evacuate toxins, the natural substances described in this article also help maintain general heath. Regularly consuming cilantro, garlic, turmeric and Omega-3 boosts the immune system, improves rational thinking and increases memory. The amazing properties of those simple ingredients are only now being (slowly) documented by science, but they have been used by cultures worldwide for centuries.

We are conditioned to treat ailments caused by artificial products with other artificial products, that, in turn, can cause other ailments. It is only by breaking this vicious circle that we can reclaim ownership of our brains and reach our fullest potential. So, today’s a new day: Put down the cheeseburger-flavored Doritos … and change your life.

My duty is to save the world: Prince Charles believes he was born for a purpose

The Prince of Wales says he believes he has been placed on Earth as future King ‘for a purpose’ – to save the world.

Giving a fascinating insight into his view of his inherited wealth and influence, he said: ‘I can only somehow imagine that I find myself being born into this position for a purpose.

‘I don’t want my grandchildren or yours to come along and say to me, “Why the hell didn’t you come and do something about this? You knew what the problem was”. That is what motivates me.

‘I wanted to express something in the outer world that I feel inside… We seem to have lost that understanding of the whole of nature and the universe as a living entity.’

Prince Charles

Green champion: Prince Charles, a long-term committed supporter of the environment, says the modern world has lost the understanding of nature

His impassioned comments come during a film about his belief that unbridled commerce has led to the destruction of farmland and countryside.

The documentary, called Harmony, is due to be aired on the U.S. network NBC in November to coincide with the launch of a book of the same name by the prince.

Charles is understood to have waived his author’s fee, and all royalties will go to his charity, the Prince’s Trust.

But the Prince has previously come under fire for hypocrisy over his eco-values.

Last year he commandeered a jet belonging to the Queen’s Flight to attend the Copenhagen climate change summit, generating an estimated 6.4 tons of carbon dioxide – 5.2 tons more than if he had used a commercial plane.

Critics condemned his words as ‘delusional’.

‘I don’t want my grandchildren or yours to come along and say to me, “Why the hell didn’t you come and do something about this? You knew what the problem was”. That is what motivates me’

Graham Smith, of the anti-monarchy group Republic, said: ‘He is under the impression he has been sent to save the world and deliver us from our sins. It’s quite delusional.

‘He will have to be impartial and keep his mouth shut when he’s king. If he really believes this is his mission and he disagrees with Government in future, he risks plunging us into a constitutional crisis.’

Senior royal aides denied the prince was attempting to mould his public image and pave the way to ensure a positive legacy.

They stressed Charles also cared passionately about his other royal duties, such as defence.

One said: ‘In private he has dismissed talk of legacies – that’s not for him to say because it’s for others to judge. But hopefully his charities will carry on for many years to come.

Expensive trip: Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in Brunei, south east Asia

Expensive trip: Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in Brunei, Asia last summer. For the trip, he hired a private jet, leading to accusations of ‘green hypocrisy’ as the visit was designed to highlight environmental issues

‘He has said there is a reason why he’s in a position to raise these issues – that there is some higher power. But there is more to his role than just green problems.

‘It’s true that outside royal duties, the environment is the thing he cares most passionately about.’

In a trailer to the film, the prince spoke passionately about his decades-long quest for what he described in a statement as ‘a sacred duty of stewardship of the natural order of things’.

He said: ‘I started 22 years ago on something that nobody really wanted to know about except a few people who thought it was pretty crazy.

‘The way nature presents itself – we’ve turned it into merely a mechanical process.

‘What is happening to the small farmers around the world is simply appalling, as a result of globalisation. Is that really the intention behind it all, just to sweep all these people off the land?’

An Asian woman, who is not named in the documentary, piled praise on the royal, saying: ‘Princes Charles has been a very courageous man because he has never thought through the throne he will occupy – he has thought through the planet he lives on.’
